Chapter 41 - Dex. Pov.The panic in Ronan's voice sends all sorts of doomsday scenarios through my head. She's changed her mind; guilt has made her decide to stay with Bruce after all. The thought that Ronan might have found them kissing or intimately entwined makes my heart feel like it's breaking. "Calm down, maybe it's something else," Drake remarks, but he doesn't sound entirely convinced. I go along with it anyway, if only to keep myself going. "Yeah, you're right. If that were really the case, we would have felt it.""Dex, did you hear me?" Ronan asks again, more urgently. I want to tell him I'm coming and ask what's going on. But before I can, I hear him in my head again. "Hurry! He took her." I was already on my way downstairs, but at those words, I lose control. I can't think anymore, and Drake takes control. He storms downstairs, overcome with rage. It's a wonder he thinks about giving Claire's baby monitor to one of the omegas we encounter. It's a wonder I even realize he's

Chapter 43Dex rushes to me and unties the ropes. I burst into tears when he takes me in his arms."I'm sorry," I say, sniffling. Only now does it dawn on me that it could have ended very differently. Dex rubs my back soothingly. "Shhhh, you're safe now," he whispers."Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" he asks when I've calmed down a bit. I let him go and nod."Dex!" Bruce calls, alarmed from downstairs. He must have gone downstairs when Dex untied me. "Can you walk?" he asks, extending his hand. "I think so." I slowly stand up, and he starts to lead me out of the room. I look around the room; the walls and floor are covered in blood. "We can't just leave her here like this," I say, looking down at Vivian. "We'll deal with it later," is his answer, and I let him lead me downstairs. "Dex!" Bruce calls again. "He's gone!" Dex curses under his breath. "Are you sure?" Dex asks as we enter the room. It looks like a battlefield. Which it actually is. Tables are shattered, glass and blood co

Chapter 45 - Lilly’s pov. It's quiet, and I immediately realize I'm alone in bed. I ignore the disappointment I feel. Dex is an important man with responsibilities, so of course, he can't stay in bed and get up with me. Especially not after a night like last night. The bed feels cold on the side he was lying on. I roll over to his side, the pillow still smelling of him, and I press my face into it. I stay there, eyes closed. After a few minutes, I realize how quiet it actually is. That's strange. Claire always makes some kind of noise early in the morning, even when she's asleep.I bolt upright, my heart pounding. Panicked, I crawl across the bed toward Claire's crib. Did something happen to her while I was sleeping? Why didn't I hear anything?"Oh, thank God," I gasp when I see the note in her bed. I let myself fall back onto the bed. Once I recover from the shock, a smile spreads across my face. Even though he had a rough day himself yesterday, he chose to take care of Claire, to g

Chapter 47“What do you mean, she won’t let it go? She has no choice.” Dex says, immediately irritated. I place a hand on his arm, and he relaxes under my touch. Bruce sighs, "I know that, everyone here knows that," he says. "And yet... knowing Lucy, it could go either way." I gesture impatiently for him to continue when he stops talking. "Or she leaves the pack..." He glances nervously at Dex, as if afraid to mention the other option."Or?" Ronan says impatiently. "Or... She stays, and tries to make Lilly's life miserable, get the pack on her side, and win Dex back," he says somewhat reluctantly."How can you be so sure? Did she say that?" I have to fight to keep my voice from trembling, to show that I'm shocked by his assumptions. I feel Dex stiffen again, probably out of anger. "No, not with those words. But I know my sister well enough to predict what her options are," he says. “Or rather, what she thinks her options are.”I try to think of something to de-escalate the situation,

Chapter 49 - Lilly’s pov.Dex sneaks up behind me and wraps his arms around my waist, while I look at the wolf-like tattoo on my neck. His mark, I run my fingers over it. I don’t feel anything; it’s just there. I smile when he kisses it. It tingles, and a wave of pleasure runs through my body. I resist the urge to turn around and let him fuck me again. Claire could wake up at any moment.I think back to last night, and a red blush forms on my cheeks. I can't believe we had sex for the first time, with Claire in the room. I definitely didn't do that with Brent. Something always held me back; the idea that she could hear everything if she woke up made it impossible for me to truly relax. But with Dex…Sure, it crossed my mind that I shouldn't let myself go completely, so as not to wake her. But that didn't stop me. My body had a mind of its own; it had to have him. I needed him.Without thinking, I asked him to mark me, or rather, begged him.Dex looks at me worriedly through the mirror
