Kill the Alpha

“You can’t kill your mate, Sette!”

I think that was the only thing that came to my mind. I froze for a moment but then continued to pack some of my arrows. I prepared my weapons. I have trained my whole life. I have prepared for the tragedy my family will face.

“It’s the only solution I could think of. And maybe, it is the only solution we have,” this time, I finally faced her.

I spent years finding ways to break the curse but it just led me to nothing.

“Do you really think you can kill an Alpha?”

I gritted my teeth.

“I’ve had a couple of missions that involved life and death situations and killing an Alpha would not be that hard. Trust me.”

“He’s the Alpha of the biggest and most powerful pack, Sette. What do you have against him?”

“How about my sixteen years of blood, sweat, and tears?” I asked her sarcastically.

The moment I turned seven, our grandmother trained me to fight against the curse. And all the years after that, I devoted my life to finding a solution that can save my family. Vicki looked like she could burst any moment now. She knows she can’t stop me and she’s just taking her chance to convince me not to kill my mate.

“Again, he’s an Alpha,” she repeated as if it would stop me.

I scoffed.

“He’s an Alpha. I’m a trained Warrior Witch, top of the ranking, assassin, and a spy. That would be a good match, right? Hard to know who will win. But don’t worry, I’ll come back home alive.”

Vicki sighed in defeat.

“You’re out of your mind thinking you could beat him.”

I zipped my bag and glanced at Vicki. She gave me the ‘you’re gonna regret this look.’ I went closer to her and caressed her arms gently. I gave her a small smile. She only looked away.

“I’m desperate, Vicki. I want to save our family and if killing him will save us, then I will do it in a heartbeat.”

“Even if you successfully kill him, a whole pack will come after you. Us. You need to think this through.”

I smiled.

“They will only come after me. My priority is to save you and our sisters.”

She shook her head, in complete displeasure at what I said. But the only thing she could do was disagree over and over again. After I saw Wevi’s sacred book bleed, a book that foretells the fate of my sisters and me. It was a sign that she will soon meet her mate.

She will soon suffer.

And her mate… will soon die. A curse in our family. A curse we cannot reverse or break. A curse that was destined for us.

And a curse for the man who will love us.

It was said that our mate will die as we fall into eternal love. And I and my sisters will suffer forever. At first, I find it ridiculous but then records of Witches, Werewolves, and Vampires suffering from this curse opened my eyes.

As the eldest in the family, it is my responsibility to protect my sisters even if it will cost my life. And I can’t protect my sisters if I am in a limbo of sadness and sorrow when my mate will die. So, before I could even meet him and… love him. I will kill him before any tragedy happens. I don’t want anyone to take his life and then I’ll suffer.

I want to take his life in my hands. I want to make sure I won’t suffer.

I went outside of my room and silent Vicki followed me. She’s the only one I told about my plans. My other sisters might be clueless but then I’ll eventually tell them once I’ll kill my mate. I headed straight to the porch. It’s five in the morning and most probably my sisters are still asleep. The guards in our mansion are awake even at this hour.

I sighed heavily as I turned around to face Vicki. Her jet-black hair always complimented her pale skin. I could see waves of anxiety in her eyes. But then again, she can’t do anything about my decision.

“If I won’t be home in the next three days, expect for the worse. If people start looking for me, tell them I have a mission and I won’t be back for a long time. Promise me that you won’t come looking for me.”

Her eyes started to tear up. I can’t watch this. I just have to come back home alive.

“I’m… sorry,” I said breathily and turned my back on her.

I will do whatever it takes to save and protect my sisters. They’re my life and blood.

I swiftly got out of our mansion. The guards couldn’t care less about where I’m going. Usually, they’ll think I’m off to the headquarters to train. But for today, I’m going to see if my years of training will pay off.

For a male Werewolf to know their mate, they have to wait for their mate to turn eighteen. I’m twenty-three now and the Alpha doesn’t have a clue about me. I opened my bag and took some pills from my pouch.

With water, I drank the pill. It’s a pill Vixen and Yesenia, my sisters, made to prevent a mate of a Werewolf from Marking so mating wouldn’t happen. We use it after we turned eighteen. As much as possible, we want to buy time so we can find a solution to this curse.

With that pill, he won’t know I’m his mate. I swallowed hard as I ran to the deep forest.

When I turned eighteen, it was hard for me to suppress my Marking. A natural ritual that happens for females who are mates of Werewolves. Good thing my sisters were able to finish the pill in time before the Alpha knew about me.

But there was one thing I couldn’t forget and take my mind off. I didn’t know that if you were mated to a Werewolf, you’d dream about them almost every night. My dreams were a nightmare ready to haunt me and a wish that I could just love him without the fear of death.

That was why I was able to find him and know him. My mind would never forget his pitch-black eyes that would have complimented my hazel eyes. Even his hair majestically follows the breeze of the wind. And his voice made my heart beat recklessly in the middle of the night.

I could only see him in my dreams. But today, as I stretch my bow, aiming for the target, I saw a clear vision of his smile. My fingers trembled as I took a deep breath.

I adjusted my bow again. My eyes staring straight at his chest.

“Focus, Rosette,” I calmed myself.

I moved my bow and arrow gently as he walked with his fellow Werewolves. My eyes narrowed as he stopped from his steps. I shifted from my seat on one of the branches in this fifty-foot tree.

Good. A clear point.

I hitched my breath and prepared myself to let go of the bow.

Until…

His eyes moved in my direction. My eyes widened as they came into contact with his dark ones. I’m in a fifty-foot tree and at least seventy meters away from him! But how did he know I’m here? I saw his eyes move to the bow and arrow I’m aiming at him and went back to my eyes. I knew I messed up. I knew I have one thing to do.

And one thing only processed in my mind-to run.
