27 Days Novels & Stories

The council cleared Knox’s name and granted us thirty days to prove our relationship is real. Thirty days. The number keeps circling back, no matter how hard I try to shake it. Dr. Patel’s office is tucked into the medical wing’s far corner, past the main treatment rooms and the small pharmacy that caters to wolf-specific needs. The door is open when I arrive, and I’m about to knock when I hear voices inside. “—one packet per day, same time each morning. It’s effective for approximately four weeks, so you’ll need to return for a refill if you want continued coverage.”

Day 35. “Then we got to 5 weeks,” I said. Lying down. Floor. Between cribs. “And we kept winning.” _Silence. 8:35 PM._ “5 weeks is 35 days,” Alex said. Yawning. Math. “35 days is more than 28 days. So we have 28 days left. Until June 2nd. Until always starts. For real.” “Yeah, buddy,” Adrian said. Kissing his head. 69 BPM. “For real.”

We were both managing it. There were exactly three weeks left until the scheduled off-week. That was twenty-two days until her flight landed and we were back in the same room. I kept that specific number in the front of my mind the same way I had been tracking statistics since the first week of September. It was the precise arithmetic of a pair doing what was required to sustain themselves across whatever distance the world demanded. Twenty-two days. I could handle twenty-two days without breaking.

The only words that rang in my head were the four months left before Carla turned twenty. Taking my phone off the nightstand, I checked the calendar. For the exact time left for me. Four months was just my wild guess. Seconds of scrolling through the calendar gave me what I was searching for. The exact time left. Three months and a few weeks. 118 days left. If I was being precise. Returning my phone to the nightstand, I shut my eyes for a little sleep. But the time left rang in my ears. 118 days. I had just 118 days to win my mate.

My cheeks were inflamed as I turned around, hoping he'd just leave me alone. "Okay," he tutted. "We have twenty nine days to go. Let's see how long you can keep pretending to be that saint from high school."

After a brief pause, he answered, "Four days. We leave in two." "Nice," Susan said, her voice warm with admiration. "That’s huge. Congratulations in advance." Jonathan clapped his hands together. "Double celebrations, then! Dominion High’s finest heroes deserve nothing less." Adrian smirked, shaking his head slightly. Four days. The countdown had begun.

"The rest is yours to hear in August." I looked at her. "August," I said. "Seventy-something days." "Seventy-three," I said. She looked at me. "You counted," she said. "Last week sometime." I held her eyes. "It helps to know." "Does it make it feel closer or further?" "Closer." I paused. "Seventy-three is manageable." She looked at the garden around us. "Seventy-three days," she said. "And then the orchard."

In the corner of my eye, I could see Xavier muttered something to himself but all I could hear was, "Fucking horny bastards... Shitloads of..... Goddammit......" I assumed he was thinking about the time Christina had hers. I watched my brother who had a sour look on his face. Christina followed my gauze and gave a half-smile at him while he still had his sour look on his face. Hmmm... How long does my heat take? Hopefully, an hour or a day at least. Please, don’t make it a day. "Do you know the minimum days at least?” Christina thinks about it until she answers, "Three days is commonly the minimum days." My eyes widened. The minimum?!

" Nahigra told Avery, and she sat down. Nahigra went over to the door and locked it. She brought down all the window curtains in the room, and sat down adjacent to Avery on a wooden chair. "When alphas are being chosen. Even the alpha will not be aware of what is going on around the secretly known alpha. The longest the alpha had used in that place we went to is 27 days and 2 hours." Nahigra explained, but was cut short by Avery. "27 days!?" She asked, and Nahigra nodded her head in agreement. "Why is it like that though?" Avery asked.
