All of you are alive.” They all look up at me, every one of them, and for the first time since stepping into that waiting room, I let myself exhale. “You don’t know how many people believe you’re already dead,” I tell them. “The news is reporting five fatalities. No survivors.” “It was close,” Damian answers. “Too close.” My eyes flick back to Gabriella. She’s the only one uninjured, but she carries herself like the weight of the entire Familia rests on her shoulders.

“You tried. And you failed. Everything good in me—everything human—survived despite you.” He paused then. And for a flicker of a second, I saw something shift in his face. Regret? Doubt? It passed too quickly to be sure. “Maybe,” he admitted quietly. “But the others—they weren’t so lucky.” I stepped closer. “The others. The girls on that list.” He nodded, eyes tired. “Most are gone. Terminated by the program or lost to their conditioning. But one—Subject Eight—she survived.” My stomach twisted.

Now, he had no choice but to be ready to accept death. Suddenly, footsteps entered the operating room, and two men appeared beside Uri's bed. One is Richard; the other is a middle-aged man wearing glasses, wearing a white shirt like a doctor in a hospital. "Is this what you caught today?" The middle-aged man looked at Uri as if he were looking at an item. "You did a great job this time; never before have we caught a vampire as young as this one." "It took me a lot of work to catch this guy," Richard said proudly. "He is only eighteen years old; all the organs in his body are healthy and eligible for your research."

After cleaning my teeth and plugging my phone by the nightstand, I climb into bed with my laptop. It boots up, rather slowly, then I go straight to the browser. Ignoring the 60+ tabs I have pulled up already, I open a new one. Then, I type "The Dark Duo Blue Channels" into the search bar. I want to know who owns Crescent supermarket - because it seems like it's him the Dark Duo have a problem with - and any information on why these guys razed the place to the ground, and why they risked getting caught by getting everyone out of there first.

I could barely make sense of what was happening, my body trembling with shock and disbelief. I was still in a daze, unable to fully comprehend the situation. My mind kept replaying the moment of the crash, the spinning car, the sudden impact. And then, Emma. The paramedics moved quickly, checking on me first, making sure I was alive, but all I could think about was Emma. She wasn't moving. She wasn’t breathing. I couldn’t grasp that she was gone.
