Hayley’s POV I think I’ve never screamed this much in my life as Hail drop decided to rip me open. I was clutching Liam’s hand, probably having broken it if it wasn’t for him being a werewolf and what not. My doctor kept yelling me to push while the dumb-witted dad kept telling me to breath. I swear if I wasn’t screaming and gritting my teeth so much, I would lecture them both about how PAIN made breathing and pushing a bit bloody harder.

He screamed, his blood hot and metallic on my tongue, and backhanded me across the face. The force of his blow sent me spinning, but I didn't fall. I bit through the pain, broke his grip, and sprinted straight for the heavy oak doors of the border house. I slammed my bloody palms against the wood. "Open the door! Please, help me!"

Without hesitation, Vincent unleashed a resounding howl, a call that carried far and wide, reaching the ears of those who could help. Kael asked, stepping forward, but no one had an answer. Then Rowan entered, eyes widening at the sight. “What in the goddess’ name is happening—?” That’s when it happened. Ava’s lips moved—slow, trembling. One word. Barely audible. “Help…” It wasn’t her voice. It was wrong. Deeper. Twisted. Kaida stumbled back, eyes wide. “That’s not her.” I turned to the others. “We need the Keeper. The Oracle. The chamber. Something, now!”

“You were chosen.” The word landed heavy. “Chosen by who?” Lennox’s gaze lifted to the window. The moonlight silvered his face. “The moon,” he said. “And the bond it recognizes.” Ari shook her head. “That’s not a thing.” Dante stepped closer. “It is. And once it happens, wolves feel it. The pull. The instinct to protect. To claim.” Her pulse spiked. “And if someone claims me?” she asked. Kai’s voice was tight. “Then you stop being just human.”
