Wanted to pull me back into that life of waiting and hoping and being second best. I stood there. Didn't give an inch. My feet felt like they were bolted to the floor. Damon's hand around my arm finally loosened. His fingers uncurled one by one. Then his arm fell away completely. He looked into my eyes. Really looked. Not the distracted glance he usually gave me—but a deep, searching stare. In my pupils, he saw his own reflection. And my face, calm to the point of coldness. No tears. No anger. No love.

They were the kind of eyes that watched buildings burn with so much happiness. Still, I didn’t move. "Is this her? Your precious collateral?" Damon sneered, taunting Aiden and Aiden moved.

IRIS' POV. After that, the party proceeded. Although we didn’t get to spend time with the couple, they waved and smiled at us from time to time. But through everything that was happening, I could tell Draco was not in the mood anymore. “Are you okay?” I asked. We were alone and sitting at one of the bars around. He drank all the rum in his glass before setting it on the counter. “He keeps looking at you the whole fucking time.”
