The voices only grew louder, pounding in my head like a relentless drumbeat.
“Stop!” I screamed, the sound tearing from my throat.
Silence. The voices vanished, as if obeying my command. The fog began to clear, revealing a figure standing before me. It was a woman cloaked in white. Her hair floated around her like a halo, stark white and ethereal. Her face remained obscured by the lingering mist, but her presence was oddly soothing.
“You shouldn’t be here,” she said, her voice soft and melodic, like a song carried by the wind.
