I think I miss him. A smile curved from my lips as I watch the forest from the window pane. The wind is making the trees dance like it’s calling me again. As I open the window, I was expecting for his voice whispering for my name again as the wind touches my face but no. I hear only silence.

Franklin’s POV It came through the window. Not through the glass… through the gap where Rydan had pulled the curtain back, the window coming open in the same instant the shape resolved into something that moved with direction and intention. I didn’t have time to process the sequence. One moment I was standing behind Rydan watching something form in the garden, and the next something had crossed the room and hit me.

He slammed the door shut and turned the key, leaving me alone to ponder this bit of news. I returned to the darkened window and did my best to peer through its opaqueness at the world outside. It was night now, making it easier to depict the crowded street with its lights and intense glitter. Everything was hazy, as if a world away, but it gave me some semblance of comfort and connection to know it was there. It was like looking through a time warp. I tried again to open the window, but it wouldn’t budge.

Perhaps there is something I can do. Stepping out of the mirror’s way, I gaze out the window, wrap my arms around my shoulders, and take a couple of deep breaths. The sun beats down on me from my open window. I can hear birds singing from the tree branches and the sound of retreating vehicles rushing up and down the street.

Hermosa's POV I leaned my head against the cool glass of the window, watching the trees blur into a dark smudge against the horizon. My arm throbbed where the needle had pierced me—a dull reminder of the life I’d just drained out of myself for people who looked at me like a meal.

I saw him, through smoked glass, unlocking the door. I scurried across a patch of young grass and sat down beneath one of the windows that faced into the square. I thought it was a kitchen window, for no better reason than its proximity to a large waste pipe, which could have meant nothing. I waited for a light to illuminate some of the grass, but when it did, it was at the side of the house and I had to creep round. There was a tiny crack between the window frame and the blind if I was very, very careful, I could just fit my eye in that space and take a look.

Abby A cool breeze drifts in through the kitchen window, and I cross the room to peer outside. I live on the top floor of my building, and I’ve got a great view of a nearby park. Standing at the window, I can hear the whoosh of the wind, and shouts down on the street.

I asked myself while randomly watching on the other side of the window. The sun rays went inside the room. The light directed towards my face, and I couldn't start staring at the air passing in front of my vision, which can be spotted clearly through my naked eyes. The leaves were swaying, and I can hear the birds chirping even though the transparent window was closed. I can't stop but go near the window, open it, and see more of the view.

Elara'S POV “Good morning, miss.” Maeve brought me a tray for breakfast and quickly retreated as soon as I opened my mouth to ask more questions. I sighed. She wasn’t going to give me any answers. Alone, in silence, I ate while staring out the window. Snow drifted down with a hypnotizing allure as I watched one large, fluffy flake after another pass my window and disappear into the whiteness below. I’d tried to open it, to determine if it was a potential escape route, but it wasn’t that type of window. The single pane of glass was solidly anchored in the wall.

Even if I were to miss the tree, I wouldn’t likely break anything, especially since we have large topiaries against the brick walls. I should be fine. I can do the only thing between me and freedom is a pane of glass and a simple screen. It’s worth the risk. Even if I fall, I’ll at least be free. The latch springs open easily. The window is stiff, but with a little force, it is soon open wide enough for me to slither through.
