Chapter 38 Alex's POV In the realm between dreams and reality, Alex slowly emerged from the depths of unconsciousness. The gradual return of sensation began with a tingling awareness in his fingers, like tendrils of life creeping up his limbs. A dull ache resonated through his head, as if his mind were struggling to break free from the shackles of slumber. As he fought against the weight of darkness, the world around him remained shrouded in obscurity. His breath came out in short pants, anything more would make one of his broken ribs puncture his lungs. Turning into a wolf was sheer agony for him, but it didn't hold a candle to the unearthly pain he was feeling on every part of his body.

At our west, the sun is already completing its day journey and casting the last of its golden orangy rays over the mountains and the river. "Are we there yet?" I asked, knowing full well that I'm not going to get an answer. We can only communicate in a telepathic way once we're in our wolf-form, meaning, I can't understand a single thing they're saying. They might be discussing the best possible way to get rid of me by making it look like an accident. I grinned. I've never gone this far before! Even the wind smells different! Sir Finnegan rules the North Woods up the Manchester river, Rainforest Academy is supposed to be downriver.

Ryker POV My heart is hammering in my chest, fists still clenched, arm still locked against Aiden’s throat like I haven’t decided whether I want to throw him through the fucking wall or let go. I woke to my fucking phone ringing and Quinn warning me that Jaxon was up to something. Then I saw the message. I would have got here quicker if I didn't have to wait for a damn taxi but I'd drank too much tonight to drive. Aiden's not smiling anymore. His usual cocky grin is gone, replaced with something quieter. A little shaken. A little cracked.

I was enveloped by darkness. I had a weightless sensation as if I were floating in space. I was unable to determine if my eyes were open or closed. Was this the last time? In the distance, a dim silvery light suddenly emerged, getting stronger by the second. It encircled me, inviting and warm but strong. Through the void came a quiet but authoritative voice. "Awaken, Melissa." I gasped as my eyes sprung open. The ground beneath me was cold and solid, but the room Kane and I had fallen into was anything from ordinary. Ethereal light glowed on the walls, and complex symbols pulsated in time with the pendant around my neck.

Awakening the Unknown The initial sensation that Aria experienced was silence. Not the serene, tranquil sort—but the suffocating silence that presses heavily on your chest, making it hard to breathe. As her eyes opened, she was greeted by the gentle dawn light streaming through the curtains in Kael’s room. Every sound felt far away—the chattering of morning birds, the rustling leaves, even her own heartbeat.

The Awakening Protocol When Natasha opened her eyes, the world wasn’t the same. She wasn’t sure how long she’d been unconscious, only that the air smelled of smoke and salt. The people of Lyren had gathered in the square, pointing upward. The Eclipse Moon—which had been pale for decades—was glowing again, pulsing between gold and shadow.

I said smiling at him before turning my back on him. "And I won't ask you for help even if I die!" Rowan shouted loudly. I didn't look back. I just continued to approach the Awakened who were currently lying on the ground. Meanwhile, Jevro called the Monsters Department to report the situation. I looked for Allen and Allyssa. Allen is unconscious probably because of the damage he received from Acon. And maybe because of my second awakening ability, I saw how bad the damage was on the man's body. He has broken ribs, internal bleeding and his ear is also damaged.

THE AWAKENING Tyla woke to the sensation of fire crawling beneath her skin. Not burning from the outside—burning from within*, as if lightning threaded her veins and refused to settle. Her ears rang with a pulse she didn’t recognize. The room swayed above her, a blur of stone ceiling and shadows dancing like living things. She forced her eyes open, gasping for air as something hot pressed against her spine and coursed upward until the world turned white. A hand gripped hers.
