Every breath feels like it has to fight its way out of me, like my lungs have forgotten how to work.
I don't know what this is.
And honestly, I don't want to know.
I only know one thing—I need to get away from it.
"I'm leaving." The words come out fucking fast, and I'm grateful they do.
I open the car door and step out.
The morning air hits my face, cool and sharp, a relief against my heated skin.
I close the door behind me, and the rear window rolls down.
Stephan leans toward the opening, an unreadable smile settling onto his face. "See you around, June."
