Finally, I whispered, barely audible, “I want to leave.” Her eyes widened, shock flickering across her face. “Leave? Leave where?”

” I replied. My cheeks were cold as the wind blew across the tear that welled and now poured down my face. I couldn’t find the strength to get back up and walk again so I gave up and flopped down on the ground. I just want to go home!

One, two, three.” I took her instructions, breathing slowly, I could feel it regulating back to a healthy rhythm, my eyes already stung with tears. “I— don’t —know what to do.” My voice cracked, tears flowing down voluntarily. “I will be selfish to say I don’t understand what you’re going through, but it’s a matter of choice my dear.” Naria said and I stared at her with teary eyes, mixed with confusion.

Stay still. Seventeen. Eighteen. Do not go out there. Nineteen. I lie still. I stare at the ceiling above Nadia's empty bunk and I breathe and I hold the promise where it lives and I count again from the beginning and I do not move and I do not make a sound and I stay in my bunk and I do not go out there because I cannot help him now and going out there would cost me the only thing I have left to spend and I know this and I hold it and I count.
