The carriage was a box of nightmares. Angel couldn't breathe. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Luciano’s face, then blood, then Elijah’s cold smile. Her hands flew to her head, fingers digging into her scalp. "No, no, no," she whispered, rocking back and forth. The words were stuck in her head, a broken record: *I ordered my men to kill Luciano.* A sob ripped out of her, so hard it hurt. Then another. She was gasping for air, her whole body shaking. This couldn't be real. It was a bad dream. A horrible, terrible dream. She had to wake up. "Luciano," she choked out, his name a prayer on her lips. "Please, please, please."
