A thin square of corridor light sliced across the floor. A bottle of water flew in. The hatch slammed shut immediately. The bottle rolled across the concrete and settled beside the others. I turned my head slowly. Counted. One. Two. … Fifteen. All fifteen bottles lay scattered along the wall. That’s how long I’d been here. Fifteen days. No clock. No food. No window. No release. Just water. And messages. Silent ones. From Aaron. A reminder. You will break. Sooner or later.

And then, silence. A scream shattered the dusk. Not Ridge. Not Luna. Something inhuman. They came from the trees—figures cloaked in rot and shadows, twisted armor etched with claws and blood-writ glyphs. Hollow pack. Their stench struck first—metal turned sour, flesh long spoiled. Trisha moved before command was called. Her axe unslung in one motion, she veered left into the shadows where screams grew sharper. Serin roared, “West line! Fall to the crest!” even as Ridge archers loosed arrows overhead.

Its ethereal glow illuminated their path, pushing back the encroaching shadows. The forest, once vibrant with life, felt eerily silent. The chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves – all were absent. An unsettling stillness hung in the air, broken only by their own footsteps. As they ventured deeper, the shadows seemed to writhe, playing tricks on their minds. The whispers of the guardians grew faint, distorted by an unseen force. It was as if the darkness within the library, emboldened by their absence, was reaching out, attempting to snare them.

I contemplated it—reminding myself that I'm a man—but in the end, I decided to stay right where I was, trying my best to understand while feeling a little frightened as I hid, waiting for it all to be over. My family is good at fighting, but the Shadowfang are even more so. This is the main family, and I don't think they have many cars in collaboration with them in order to stand up to their enemies in such a battle. I feel guilty for living like this. They screamed in rage, retreating into the shadows as the light enveloped the room. Kaelen turned to her, his eyes widening in awe. "You did it, Amelia! You pushed them back!" But before they could celebrate, a cold laugh echoed through the room, sending chills down Amelia's spine. "Foolish children," a voice taunted, smooth and sinister. "You think you can beat me that easily?" From the shadows emerged The Shadow himself, cloaked in darkness, his eyes glowing with hatred. The air grew heavy with fear as he stepped forward, an evil grin spreading across his face.

At this point, I wasn't even surprised. I sat cross-legged near one of the large windows, attempting to read. The shadow from earlier lingered nearby, watching me and occasionally drifting from shelf to shelf. I should have been alarmed, but instead, I found myself smiling. Somehow, the strange little creature felt familiar now, like an unexpected friend. Outside, darkness settled over the kingdom, and moonlight spilled across the library floor. I turned another page, then froze. The shadow had moved closer without me noticing. Slowly, carefully, the darkness stretched upward, forming a thin ribbon before wrapping itself gently around my wrist. I stared, and the shadow immediately went still

"Can you tell me where it is I am exactly before I choose?" "Well, you have lots of questions," He lets out a small laugh, "You're in the House of Shadows, in this particular realm each door is either a prison or a way to freedom. Don't think you are safe even if you happen to pick a door with no danger. Danger lurks in every direction here." I look at him with conviction. I can hardly believe he wanted me to pick a door that could potentially kill me, but then again he's a demon and only wants what amuses him most.

My family has been long members of the council, and as if it was some kind of inheritance, the responsibilities were passed on to us. The Council of the Moon Shadows were meant to protect, not hurt anyone. “How much do you know about the council, Ethan?” Alaric asked as his eyes, like Izobel’s color, which is golden yellow flickered from Zena to me. I shook my head and smirked. “Come to think of it, Nolan and I never really take all those stories seriously. We don’t know much.” I groaned and turned my gaze to Alaric. “I know you don’t trust me that’s why you wanted to erase my memories. But I also want to know what I’m dealing with. I feel blind walking in the dark.”

Dismayed Trish didn’t bother to reply her she reached to open the heavy door. Connie moved to help her and they both started laughing at how heavy the door was. Leading the way, Connie went inside and the heavy door closed behind Trish with a loud thud that made them jump as they found themselves in a short dark hallway. Holding hands they moved inside and the place was empty and dimly lit with the only light and low sound coming from the bar. They walked towards the light hoping to find someone but the counter was empty. ‘What do we do now, this place looks dead to me and as you can see Emma is not here.’ Trish whispered desperate to leave, the place was making her uncomfortable.

I glanced at the puzzled faces of the other two men before I stopped, feeling a chill run down my spine. Austin muttered a curse under his breath, while Gabriel's eyes narrowed. “This feels like a message,” he whispered. I swallowed hard, pushing open the door to my study room. The light sparkled overhead. I froze, my senses heightened, as a shadow moved, quick and deliberate. My ears felt blocked and I felt every muscle in my body tense, ready for whatever came next… And then, the room fell into silence. “What?” I mumbled.
