Without another word, he launched at Ruthie and his claw spread ready to kill then he paused as if being controlled. He could perceive humans coming. It smelled like a feminist.

"Please let me. I wanted to spend more time with you anyway, so please allow me. I absolutely don’t mind." Aria couldn’t speak anymore. She opened her lips and closed them again. "Agreed then. Where do you work?" Mitch answered for her: “The alpha’s turnout”

I don’t have the normal vampire healing ability, and I’m beginning to feel a bit concerned. “I can wait,” the Alpha says calmly. “You can tend to your injury first.” I would rather serve him and have him leave, but I have to prioritize. “Just give me a moment,” I say hastily, crouching to the floor and reaching for the small first aid kit that we usually keep under the counter in case of emergencies. I have to put the box on the counter, and I fumble with the bandage. The Alpha gives me an odd look. I hurriedly wrapped the bandage around my palm and slammed the box shut before turning back to him.

I protested. “Because you are one of the Alphas of the pack, one of the pillars that holds this pack together. And you are incomplete without your mate. It doesn’t matter what Noah or Logan are doing. You need to take responsibility for your part of the duty as well. And…” His face turned dark as he turned around and stared out of the window. “And what?”

I should have spent the last few days researching werewolves, but my mind has been stuck on the singular fact that they exist, and I’ve been incapable of thinking beyond that. “Forgive me,” he shook his head. “The Alpha is comparable to the CEO of a company or the president. He’s the leader and everyone in our pack follows him. As the Beta, my duties are similar to Azure’s, but I’m on a tight leash,” he winked. “A dog joke?!” I snorted out a laugh. "That's comedic gold." “I knew you’d appreciate it,” Finn chuckled. “I am at the Alpha’s command, more so than anyone else. My job is to assist him in any way necessary when it comes to running the pack smoothly.”

As the council sits back down, but before Disney can move for my dismissal, my family members stand in the audience, alerting everyone that something else is at play now. “Council members.” I address them, “every single one of you are either current Alphas of your own pack or former Alphas. An Alpha’s first job as decreed by the Moon Goddess, is protecting the innocent. These rogues, whom you are allowing to roam freely and not bringing to heel by not going after them, are willfully putting the innocent in danger.

Does it affect Kiel? Come to think of it, she already caught a glimpse of him holding back last night inside the car. And she can’t deny that it left her in a daze. How can Kiel, a recessive alpha, had that sweet scent? “President? Are you alright?” Only Devyn realized that she’s already making that irritated face again. “Miss Anna,” she called out. It happened so fast; Dan had not known what had happened. Turning, I walked out of the cell towards the guards on duty. “Thank you, Alpha,” they stated. I looked at them, “It is not a good day when we have to destroy a wolf,” I reminded them. It was never a decision taken lightly. In this case, it was a necessity.

He liked the sound of that, but when he opened his eyes once more he saw a serious expression creasing Ash forehead. Ash smile, 'yea sure responsibilities'. “What is it?” Ash ask when Alex keep staring him with questions look. “If you want to make this a one time thing, I—That’s fine. I’ll not let it affect our working relationship,” Alex spoke carefully. “But if you ever need a heat Alpha—” “I’ll know who to call,” Ash finished for him. A subtle smile spread across his lips. He reached up to cup Alex face, his long fingers trailing from the Alpha’s ear over the angle of his jaw while his thumb smoothed across the fullness of his bottom lip.

Chapter 11 ************ ASHLEY POV For the next several hours, dad trains me on the office side of Alpha duties. We go over more laws, the history of the royals, how the elder council was formed, and some of the duties Alpha’s have to do. Some of those duties include, helping with disagreements between pack members, helping to train the head warriors that are used for protection detail of high ranking pack members, running the pack business, keeping good relations with other packs nearby, etcetera.
