Arthur said softly, his pale blue eyes staring expectantly into hers as his thumb brushed the lone tear that had fallen onto her cheek. It was like a dam had broken inside of her. She felt so alone, hurt, angry and frustrated at the man who was kneeling in front of her. Unable to rein in her tumultuous emotions, she cried. Huge angry sobs raked her body. Arthur stood and pulled her up into his embrace and waited for her cries to subside, rubbing her back and resting his chin on the crown of her head. His heart clenched, for he is the cause of her tears and misery.

Almara’s Pov I quickly wipe the blood from my lip, but it’s too late. Arthur knows blood has been drawn. I watch as defeat makes his body crumple. He falls to knees and lets out a broken sob. Along with the sound of his shocked tears, my heart shatters. I have never seen Arthur cry and it dawns on me that perhaps this is the first time he’s cried since he was Grace’s age. I go to wrap my arms around him as I would to Grace, but without lifting his head from his hands he tells me to stop.

Arthur was a revolting man, and I found his blood equally revolting. Arthur was supposed to regain some control over his body at this point. However, perhaps I had hit him too hard.
