Atticus' mouth went dry and he swallowed. “Do you not want this baby?” Atticus never considered Harris might not want a child with him. The larger Alpha's chest tightens and Draven recedes even further, the scent of Ash completely disappears as Draven hides in the back of Atticus’ mind. Harris' mouth opens and closes a few times and Atticus' stomach drops even further. “Oh… I see,” Atticus said quietly and turned as he swallowed the lump in his throat and walked back inside.

“I don’t plan on killing you, but I wonder if you’ll still be that fucking cocky if I turn your dick into spaghetti.” Beside me, Vance lets out a puff that I’m almost positive is laughter, and it catches me by surprise. But as I turn to meet his gaze, he looks away, covering his mouth so that I can’t see whether or not I was right. “I could just turn him into a popsicle and shatter his fingers, toes, and limbs one by one,” Atticus offers. “Oh, I’d like to see that." I grin. “Go on then.” Growing quiet, I wait as Atticus takes me in with an unreadable expression, and when he finally nods and gets up, I feel like maybe we are slowly going back to how we were.

Why does he hate me so much? “Uh, Mr. Everette…” she swallowed, trying to calm her racing heart. “I’m here to apply for the secretary position.” He laughed bitterly, stepping closer. “You want to work for me? After everything?” He shook his head in disbelief. “Are you playing games with me, Atticus?” Confused and shocked, Atticus’s nerves turned to frustration. “What are you talking about? And how do you know my name? Did you read my résumé?”

She stopped, making herself breathe the way it should. She did not want to be seen as nervous. She didn’t want to indicate that he impacted her. He looked up, as if feeling her gaze. Their eyes met. Atticus is both confused and surprised at all the dead bodies he passes. “What the hell happened here,” He mumbles as he turns left down the next hall. Atticus follows the beacon of his people down the stairs. When he reaches the bottom, he looks right but doesn't feel them. He looks left and sees a short hall with a large steel door. He feels them—all of them—and they're on the other side of that door. Atticus approaches the door, places his hands on the door, and closes his eyes, feeling for them. Yes, they're definitely on the other side of this door.
