It was clicking and making wheezing noises. The guards pulled her away from the door. The physician asked her questions. She wasn’t listening to them. She was listening to the rogue… The wheezing, it wasn’t random. It didn’t correlate to any language she knew. It… It was whining. Like a dog. She wanted to be sick. Rogues didn’t act like this. My lungs burned as I wheezed, trying to scream, trying to call Fenric, but the sound that came out wasn’t mine. It was thin. Fragile. It rasped across my cracked lips like ash. “H…help…” The word was a whisper. Too quiet. Lost in the wind. I opened my mouth again, tried harder, force every fiber of my being into sound:
