Plumes of black smoke rose from multiple sectors, and the artificial blue sky grid was flickering wildly, revealing patches of the real, dark morning sky above.
"The city is waking up," Leo said softly, staring out at the view. "No matter what happens today, things will never go back to the way they were."
"Not if we finish this," I replied.
We reached the heavy double doors of the private archive. Leo used his bypass tool on the electronic lock, and the doors slid open with a soft hiss. Inside, rows of massive server banks hummed in the dark, bathed in soft blue light.
And right in the center of the room stood the express lift, its silver doors reflecting our shadows.
