Her skin glowed faintly, her silver eyes shone brighter than they used to, a soft aura pulsing like a heartbeat around her. “What is this…? What’s wrong with me? Why do I look weird? Why do I look like this!?.” she said, voice trembling, hand reaching to touch her reflection. Kevin stepped forward, slower this time, cautious. “You’re not weird, Ally,” he said gently. “You’re awakening something in you.” That word hit her like a blade. Awakening. Awakening into what? Alison suddenly dropped the book and fell to her knees. The pain in her chest grew unbearable.

In slow sensual movements, we edge our way towards a rapturous crescendo as the sunlight crests the buildings of the city outside and steams through my windows, then we fall asleep in a satiated tangle of limbs. I wake up to a loud buzzing and check the camera. It’s that special detective who handles BPD’s supernatural cases, Tabitha. I press the intercom button. “I’ll be down in a moment.
