The Vision skipped forward then as if skipping over something she didn’t want him to see. She smiled as she woke up to a strong smell of pine, thinking she had woken up from the awful dream. She tried to roll over but she was cuffed with silver chains. She was in a dungeon. She glanced around the room, starting to panic. ‘Jayce, Myra, somebody.’ She tried to mindlink them. “I wouldn’t bother, they can’t hear you.” The calm deep voice came from the shadows. “Who are you?” The voice that came out was not hers but Vivian’s.

I lay there, shivering, my body trying to heal the invisible wounds of a rejected bond while the silver chains continued to poison my blood. A soft click of the door made my ears twitch. I became alert instantly, my instincts screaming. Someone was here. I forced myself upright, my back scraping against the rough stone as I tried to find my footing. The door creaked open, admitting a sliver of light from the hallway.

There, beneath a faded illustration of an ancient sword dripping with blood, was a passage written in ink so dark it looked almost fresh. "The Blood of Two, One to awaken, One to wield. The cursed shall rise, and the hunter shall fall." A chill crept through me. I read it again. And again. One to awaken… One to wield… Was that what she meant? My grip tightened around the book as realization crashed over me.

Alternating pov: Dawn had barely touched the horizon when the pain woke me—sharp, rolling, electric. My whole body trembled, skin too tight, bones burning. I gasped and clutched the blankets, trying not to scream. The door flew open. “Sera.” Kade was already at my side, dropping to his knees. He must have been waiting. Watching. Ready. “It’s starting,” I breathed, voice shaking. “I know, baby. I’ve got you.” He swept me into his arms, holding me like I weighed nothing.

Too careful. Predatory. “You don’t even know what you are yet,” they whispered. “What blood runs in you. What power sleeps under your skin.” I pulled my head back sharply, but they caught the chain and yanked me forward until my forehead hit their chest. Pain exploded across my skull. “Let go,” I hissed. A chuckle. “Fight. Yes. Fight hard. It makes the awakening sweeter.” My throat tightened in confusion and fear. Awakening? Before I could speak, the figure placed two fingers on the side of my neck—and suddenly the mate bonds inside me flared. Not gently. Not naturally.

Eden’s POV I awoke with a start. The sun was bright. I squinted my eyes to shield them. My head was groggy. Where was I? “FINALLY, you’re awake,” a voice said. “You’ve been unconscious for two days.
