Within another minute, I could see the large black bear in the distance, but I couldn’t see Quinn, and I prayed that the bear hadn’t gotten to her. Without hesitation as soon as I was within range I leaped onto the large beast’s back. I sunk my teeth deep within the bear’s neck. It was at that moment that I saw Quinn and the horror in her eyes told me that she was ready to have another one of those panic attacks of hers. I needed to make this quick. But the bear had other thoughts as it threw us back onto the ground landing on top of me knocking the wind out of me.

The warrior's eyes widened as the massive bear was in front of him before he could move. A gurgly sound could be heard as Anders bit into his throat and violently shook his head, ripping it out. The men around him gasped and tried to run away as the bear turned toward them, growling. A bright blue light flashes in the sky before hitting the ground behind the enemies and exploding. The skin was rubbery, dark and thin; short, sharp hairs decorated it’s huge body like the spikes of a porcupine; it’s snout was elongated and a thick tar-like substance dribbled from its black lips; the eyes were a blood red; but worst of all, along the ridge of its spine, razor sharp fins of bone jutted up from the skin like the peaks of a mountain.

Something has changed.” “There is no more time.” Matheson says sadly. “Your bear is out of control.” “You fucked up my chest.” The big guy with the tattooed sleeves shouts as he gets off the bike. He takes up his shirt, revealing four fresh pink scars running across his chest that look like bear claws. “This is permanent! You cut me to the bone.” “It wasn't me.” Armel says with a sigh. “It was my bear.” “Same shit.” Says the big guy with vengeance in his eyes.

The opening was now four feet wide. The light from our flashlights cut into the dark entrance hall. The floor was covered in wet leaves, broken glass, and white bones. A massive shape stood in the center of the hallway. It was a bear. But it was not a normal mountain bear. Its black fur was gone in patches, replaced by thick, gray scars and red sores from the radiation of the Burning. It was over seven feet tall, its shoulders broad and heavy. Its eyes were clouded with white cataracts, meaning it was almost completely blind.
