… A few years later, the once oppressive home was now sinister and terrifying. Dad had completely restored my room to its former state, and he'd replaced the door lock with the strongest security lock on the market. My desk was piled high with my textbooks and mock test papers and exercise sheets, each one marked a perfect 100/100 score in bright red ink. Dad would sit at my desk every night, holding that rusty pair of compasses in his hand, driving the sharp point into his thighs without hesitation every time he felt a bout of drowsiness washing over him. He would then let out a hiss as the excruciating pain jolted him awake and cold sweat beaded on his forehead.

"Let me read you a bedtime story." Knowing he might feel lonely in a new place, I picked up the storybook he'd brought. "Which story would you like tonight?" "The Magic Academy." Ian scooted over to make room for me. I lay down beside him and began reading. Tired from playing, his eyes started drooping halfway through. I softened my voice, and soon heard steady breathing beside me. I closed the book and started to get up. Ian rolled over and hugged my arm. I froze, afraid of waking him.

00 at night, I still have an hour to read this book. “I'm sorry, madam, it's only 09.00 at night, isn't bedtime every 10.00 at night? If I still have an hour and I can't sleep well, that's why I come here to just read a book to relieve boredom. Once again I'm sorry, if I have indeed violated a rule, please don't punish me with severe punishment."

It’s ok though because they will with time. Mom tells me to go get ready for bed. I’m more than happy to do it. After all that I ate I’m having problems keeping my eyeballs open. I drag myself to my room and change my clothes before going to the bathroom to do my business and brush my teeth. I go get mom and she comes up and tucks me in. I’m too tired I fall asleep before she can read me my nightly books.

I'm drawn into the story and I forget all about my own troubles for a while. Eventually, my eyelids start to droop and I put the book down. I snuggle under the covers and turn off the light, feeling content and peaceful. As I drift off to sleep, I can't help but think about how much my life has changed in just a few days. I'm scared about what will happen next, but I'm also excited about the possibilities.

Everything about the little girl makes me smile so hard. I dropped the book she gave to me on the table and looked around the room again. It was time to sleep already but I still don’t know how to sleep on such a bed. So instead of sleeping on the bed I found a more suitable position. After laying down I struggled to fall asleep several times but I couldn’t sleep.

I tell her with a small smile. We chat for awhile longer before it starts getting late and I head back to my room. I crawl into bed and find my favorite book where I left it the last time I Was here on my window sill and dive right into it, submerging myself into another world, another time, another story other than mine.

I mumbled emotionally before I proceeded in reading the storybook. Reading bedtime story was quite fun and relaxing until I felt the need to sleep so, I closed the book, put it on the side table and turned the lamp on. I yawned as I carefully laid down, slid half of my body in my thick comforter and let myself fall in a deep slumber.

I said and she nodded. "You will think about it right?" my mom said and I nodded. "Goodnight mom," I said and she kissed my forehead. "Goodnight Janis," she said and went to her room. I entered my room and went to the bathroom and took a shower changed into PJs I fell asleep slumber as soon I lay down. Hey guys. I hope you like this book too. This is not a fantasy novel. I reached out, gently smoothing down a stray curl that was standing straight up on her head. "But it won't take very long. We’ll be back early, and if you're very good and try to sleep now, you can come into my bed later tonight and we can read that story about the space whale. Deal?" Anika’s face instantly brightened, a tiny, gap-toothed smile breaking across her lips. "Deal!"
