I thanked her absentmindedly, pretending to eat, my eyes glued to the footage.
“Beta, eat properly,” she said, frowning.
“I will,” I replied, forcing a smile.
Quickly finished and stood up. “I’ll go to my room.”
She must have thought I was sulking because of her departure. But my mind was already ten miles ahead, inside Mr. Everhart’s house, behind that hidden wall.
Once I was in my room, I dimmed the lights and watched in silence.
He was still there. Still working. Then, close to evening, the camera caught something. A faint click. His hand moved to the far side of his study, and the feed jolted. He opened his vault.
