I can handle this on my own. But as I sit there trying to read the same paragraph over and over again, I can hear laughter coming from downstairs. Loud, genuine laughter, like they’re all having the best time together. It makes my chest feel tight with loneliness and anger. My stomach starts growling, making these embarrassing rumbling noises that echo in the quiet room. I try to ignore it, but it just gets louder and more insistent. I haven’t eaten anything since this morning aside from the hangover soup, and my body is starting to protest.

The silence stretched, becoming awkward by the minute. I decided to break it by saying something but when I opened my mouth, my tummy rumbled loudly causing me to flush in embarrassment. I held my stomach, wishing I could vanish into thin air because I'm sure everyone in the room heard that. “Umm—” I felt Knox rage before he spoke, “He's been starving you, hasn't he? I knew the bastard wouldn't take of you, you've become so thin.”

Where did Collins find the nerve to snarl at him like that? The thief, who was being booked in the corner, couldn't resist chirping in. "It’s just a bunch of shots of a growing stomach in there! I won't let a moment like this slide, I looked at Felix, who was obviously fighting for his life as he waited for that one moment to come, for me to give the go-ahead, like blowing a whistle. The growling grew louder, more insistent, as if my stomach was shouting demands for food. I laughed, amused by the audacity of my own belly, and knew it was time to feed the beast.
