Claws fully extended, I lunged at the nearest two… a massive black-eyed brute and its foaming companion barreling straight for Zeph’s flank. The first one never saw me coming. My hand punched through its chest, fingers closing around its still-beating heart. I ripped it free in a wet, tearing spray of blood and gore, the organ pulsing once in my palm before I crushed it. The rogue’s body crumpled, ribs splayed open like broken wings, black blood pooling beneath it.

Clark snarled and I fumed. My claws pierced into his leg and he growled lifting it, in pain. With every strength left in my body, I held on as he tried to fling me off. I swung to the top of his shoulder, twisted his neck until I heard a cracking sound. I used my claws to pierced through his back and rip his heart out. His howl shocked the rogues just as I took the heart and ate it. He fell flat dead with his neck between my legs, I was panting and sweating.

My hands burned like they were on fire. I looked down and saw claws where my fingernails used to be. I didn't think. I just moved impulsively. I was faster than I'd ever been in my life. The world blurred around me as I ran toward the giant. My new claws felt natural, like they'd always been there. I leaped. My claws found the giant's back, digging deep. He roared this time and spun around, dropping Malachai. But I held on, raking my claws across his shoulders, his neck, anywhere I could reach.

A sharp pain shot through my body as blood poured into the river. I spun around instantly. One punch. Its skull shattered. Without slowing down, I drove my claws into another beast’s eyes before tearing through its throat. Leaping onto the back of a gigantic crocodile, I gripped its head tightly and raked my elongated claws across its neck. Blood erupted everywhere.
