I raised the blade. And from the eastern edge of the sanctuary, where the enslaved vampire contingent had been holding position for the last hour, someone came through the gap at a full run with silver eyes that were completely, entirely, unmistakably his own.

“Well, what do we have here?” Vastria and Elcid jumped alarmed. Vastria watched as Elcid instinctively leaped with a blade in hand smashing it in the vampire’s skull. The vampire did not have time to protect himself. Elcid swiftly twisted the blade then the head of the vampire ripping it straight off. Blood splattered everywhere covering Elcid’s face. Some blood got onto Vastria, but she did not care.

"I won't let go." Rhydian smiled through the blood on his lips. "You never have to." The Twin Blades merged into one brilliant white sword. Its light pierced the heavens. The King of the Void looked at the weapon. For the first time... It took a single step backward. "You forged..." Its voice carried something unfamiliar. "...the Blade of Beginning." The Creator smiled. "No. They did." The white blade released a pulse of light that spread across the collapsing world. Dead trees bloomed. Broken stone became green with life. The frightened Gatekeepers felt hope returning to their hearts. Even the widening crack in the sky stopped growing.

Darek’s eyes flick down to the blade, then back up to me. “You got here fast,” he says. “You should’ve been gone before I did.” “Why?” “Because you’re standing too close.” Nyxara lets out a slow breath. She lowers the knife a little more, but she doesn’t let go of it. Light flashes along the metal, and the bond shifts again. Heat flares in the center of my chest, sharp and sudden—then disappears just as fast. My eyes lock on the blade. “Where did you get that?” Nyxara doesn’t answer but the bond tightens again, just for a second. Enough to feel the strain of it. Darek follows my gaze to the knife.

“Entrance.” Blade stepped back and walked back to the entrance, grabbed the keys from the hook and then made his way back to the cell. Just as he placed the key into the lock the sound of footsteps approached before a low hiss was heard. Blade takes his hand from the keys and turns to whoever is now down here with them as they hiss. “Who are you? What are you doing down here?” Without answering, Blade moves, he has fought Vampires before and after a little back and forth between them Blade throws their unconscious bodies into one of the open cells. He then walks back to the cell containing his mate, turns the key and opens the door.

The pack was in danger now. Dayton walked back then, holding two silver blades. They gleamed in the evening light. The edges looked sharp enough to cut through anything. “The men are ready,” he said. “All armed with silver blades. This will hurt those vampires badly.” He handed one to Damon. Damon took it, nodding. He swung it a bit to feel the balance. It looked good in his hand. Dayton stared at me next. His eyes were hard, like he was testing me. Damon watched too, arms crossed, waiting.

He snatches the vamp’s head in his hands and jerks it, ripping it clean off his neck. Tate ducks a set of fangs just coming at his shoulder, and it's as if I see it happen in slow motion. He drops, but somehow tucks and rolls mid air, out of the way enough for me to jump over him, as my claws pop out and slash at the vamp’s neck. Blood soaks Tate, and me both. Blake comes in behind him with a makeshift stake, and sinks it into the vamp’s back.

His words came out laced as a threat. "She knows" Jade confessed immediately. "Blood was our bond. Our solemn vow and promise to the hood and when, if that promise is ever broken, blood is also the way to end it. This—" His voice rose, spitting in her face and inching closer. "This is why we kill" In a split second, he dug the knife into her. Jade. And it took more than just a while to process what had just happened. I couldn't even believe as she fell into my arms.
