“Hey. Agnes. Sorry, I have to leave early. I have to go.” “Is everything okay?” “Everything's fine. Abby can get Sophie and Rachel home. I have to go.” And not wanting to waste anymore time, I take off towards the front door with a jog. The path to the Asylum is twisty and long. Once I've finally made it there, I can see two cars parked in their lot. All the rest must have splintered off away from Hyde. I walk straight up to the front door and yank the screen off its hinges, then burst through the door barely out of breath. The door smashes against the wall. I'm not wasting any time.

Ashen moves. Hard. I bend over my own breath, palm clamping to my belly. The door answers. A line of white light slips through the center seam. Kael draws his blade. The scouts do the same. The stone does not open fully. It waits, light breathing through the crack like something alive behind closed lips. Then Draven’s voice comes from within. Calm. Pleased. “You brought both futures to the root.” Lily makes a sound like she has been struck. Kael steps in front of me by instinct.

I held Lucas’s hand, and we headed home together. I had already found a place online before my discharge. It was a small two-bedroom apartment, which was cozy and well-furnished. Williams dropped us off at the lobby downstairs. As I got out of the car, he grabbed my wrist abruptly. “Christelle, are you sure about this?” He looked at me with an anticipation that I could not quite understand. I stared directly into his eyes and nodded calmly. In an instant, his anticipation vanished, and he returned to his indifferent self.

“First of all, why do you have bleach in your car, you little freak? Secondly, while I appreciate you offering to commit a felony for me without hesitation, I think you need to slow your roll.” Ashley pouted, but sat down next to me. “That bleach has saved many a bride who’s spilled something on her precious dress, I’ll have you know.” She grabbed my hand and squeezed. “And I’ll commit a felony for you any day. I put the axe away and joined James where he’d already poured the bleach into the bucket. “Got two brushes.” I threw one to him and he dipped it into the bucket. I poured the bleach directly on the blood and started scrubbing as James shook his head and started from the other side. James and I scrubbed that area until there couldn’t possibly be any traces of blood left. When the smell of bleach overwhelmed us, I took the black bags to the Jeep and opened the boot. I placed three black bags on the floor of the boot and then loaded Mia inside. James locked the den’s door and got into the passenger seat.

My heart longed to see her like that, finally getting a chance to be with my Luna for once. I took a step closer to the door, my ears turning sharply. Even Blaze was eager to catch every sound inside the bathroom. However, my sharp hearing ability failed to hear anything, not even a splash of water or a whisper of movement. It was just silence! A prickling unease crawled down my spine as I knocked on the door, twisting the handle. “Ahsley, are you in…” The rest of the words died down in my head as the door was unlocked, opening with a single nudge. The empty bathroom appeared before my sight, escalating my panic. The bouquet fell down from my hand as I turned around sharply and called out.

GRACE'S POV When I left the hospital, the sky had turned gray. It seemed to match my mood. Lovely. I half expected it to start raining so I could finally let go and cry my eyes out. I stood outside for a long moment, holding the envelope of medical reports against my chest. Maybe if I held it tight enough, it would disappear alongside the illness. It didn't work. Eventually, I realised that I probably looked weird as I stood there, outside, unmoving. People probably thought I was a suicide bomber. I drove away from the hospital, praying that the ache in my chest would disappear.

A deafening screech of tearing metal echoed through the server cathedral as a heavy, matte-black Vesper breach-pod smashed through the exterior glass, raining down a deadly storm of jagged shards and pulverized framing directly onto the floor. "Ambush!" Stefan roared, shoving Noah and Leo behind a thick bank of server racks as high-velocity suppression fire erupted from the smoking breach-pod. Heavy tactical cleaners in matte-black armor poured through the shattered dome, their red optical visors cutting through the smoke and blue server light. The scream that left my lips was bloodcurdling. I stare at my reflection in horror and almost have the urge to cry. My hair is no longer a fair shade of strawberry blonde but a creamy chocolate brown, my natural hair colour. Oh, shit, shit, shit! I grabbed my bottle of shampoo and dumped its contents into the sink; it wasn’t shampoo. It was bleach. Fuck! How did bleach get in here? Someone must have poured bleach into this bottle, and Kiara was the only one in the room. My blood boiled in such a way that I was certain my skin was turning a bright shade of red. I storm out of the bathroom, but I am met by no one in our room.

I was locked in. White. The walls were white. The ceiling. The sheets. The room smelled like bleach and something deeper. Like blood. Like antiseptic. Like survival. Then I felt it. My face. Wrapped. Bandaged. As if someone had tried to patch a shattered vase with gauze and hope. My skin itched under the layers, tight and raw. My chest felt wrapped in something stiff. My breathing ragged.
