Riley and The Riptide
My only friend is so sad that she’s about to cry, which she never does, and everything about the light reflecting off her eyes and sparkling through her tears makes it one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.
I take my hand, place it over hers, and squeeze reassuringly. “It’s okay, Ains. We’re here for you.”
“He’s, um, he’s a really shitty, manipulative guy, and I paid the price.” A tear drops, staining her face like a highlighter sliding over a page in an old book.
“Oh, Ainsley!” Charlotte sits up and gives Ainsley a proper hug. She grabs my hand and pulls me in.
When it seems like everyone’s tears have dried up, we take Charlotte into the bathroom and do a few internet searches.
