Novel & Cerita Book Review Of The Life Of Pi

In my previous life, Derick had his fling with his so-called 'sister' Jasmine before he ever knew me. All the while, unaware of the truth, I was running the mafia business and raising their child myself. They were busy dreaming about their love child and blowing through the cash I made, which ended up costing my son his life. I poured my soul into making their kid my successor, and they just sat back and enjoyed the spoils. My boy and I? We were just pawns in their perfect life! Fate handed me a do-over, and this time, Derrick and Jasmine would be dealt with a well-deserved retribution!

It feels like the witching hour, magical and precious. “How long have you been here?” I whisper. “About half an hour. You didn’t even stir when I came in. Why did you disappear? We missed you.” I don’t reply, unable to put my misery into words. His gaze lingers on me for a while. Then he returns it to his Kindle. “What are you reading?” I ask. “The Life of Pi,” he says, surprising me. “I’m wondering whether there’s a tiger like Richard Parker on board here somewhere.”

On the high-speed train home, the scenery outside passed by in fragments, but I could not focus on any of it. Shanine slept soundly on my shoulder. She had drunk too much the night before and had been rushed onto the train early this morning, leaving her half-dazed. Her hair brushed my neck, carrying the familiar scent of her shampoo. Yet, my heart felt strangely quiet. Almost empty. That happiness had arrived too fiercely, and it had disappeared just as quickly. Phoebe sat across from us, wearing headphones and scrolling through her phone. Occasionally, she looked up, our eyes meeting briefly before she quickly looked away again, as if nothing had ever happened.
