Forced to Forever
I stopped him.
“No, don't go. If you need a place to cry, this is as perfect a place as any. I know from experience.”
“You cry?” he asked with a slight smile.
“Yes. I'm a writer. I have an expansive array of emotions.”
“Yes, I've experienced some of them,” he joked. I laughed with him for the first time ever. I invited him to share my sangria and to tell me about his tears. He bore his soul for hours and for hours, I listened. We cried and laughed together. There was way more to him than he ever let on and I was wrong to judge him. That was the last thing I remembered before falling asleep with him sobbing in my lap.
