Booktok Doorframe Lean Novels & Stories

And instantly the hinges crack as stone dust falls from the frame. Just after the third impact, the door tears from its frame and crashes to the floor. BANG!!!

And I stood in the center of the room for a very long moment, just breathing. Then I looked at the door. There was a lock on it. Not on the outside, not the kind you put on a door to keep something in. The bolt was on the inside. A heavy, dark iron bar fitted into a bracket, and the bracket was set into the stone beside the doorframe, and the whole thing was positioned at a height that made clear it was intended for use by whoever was inside the room. My throat did something involuntary.

The door shook with the force of the crowd outside, throwing themselves against it blindly. Three had moved to the window and already, their palms were bleeding as the glass cracked and pierced their skin, staining the shards red. Mr Montford and Ash hauled a small book case across the room. The carpet and their haste making it all the more difficult. If there was something for it to snag on or get caught on, then it did. Penalty, perhaps, for dumping its contents into an unsightly pile as if they were logs for the fire.

The air helped clear my head a little, but the world still tilted just slightly. I walked up the perfectly manicured path, my key already in hand. But as I reached the heavy oak door, my hand paused. It wasn't quite shut. A sliver of darkness, no wider than my thumb, stretched between the door and the frame. My brow furrowed. That was odd. I was careful about locking up. Laura was too. She hated even the idea of something being out of place.

Haley crossed to the door and began examining the hinges, how the two swinging pieces were attached. "They made sure to tell me this bar that the doors attach to is anchored into the foundation." "But what about the hinges? The screws? Bolts? One weak point could change everything." She was aware of Konstantin at her back while she went over the doors. They weren't cheaply made, which was a disappointment. The bars were as thick as her thumb, so not likely to bend, and she doubted they'd be able to break them. And there were no hinges. The post went through holes formed into the gates.

She knocks on the door, but there's no answer. Rita decides to investigate further. She peers through the window, and sees that there's a book lying open on the floor. It's an old book with yellowed pages and a crumbling spine. The pages are fluttering in the breeze, as if someone had just put it down and walked away. Rita feels a chill run down her spine.

“Do you have somewhere in the house that is private?” “Mack, I think you came to the right place.” Haven laughed, and she looked at him with a smile. She took his hand and started walking to the back of the house. When he walked into the furthest room in the house, he thought something was slightly off about the room, but he couldn’t figure it out. When she walked to the sidewall, though, she moved the book on the bookshelf, and soon there was a door that was open, and she was pulling it open.
