I let out a breath I hadn’t realised I was holding, my mind still spinning from everything that had just unfolded. *** The rest of the day dragged on, each hour blending into the next as I aimlessly scrolled through my phone in bed. At some point, boredom led me to the living room, where I flipped through endless TV channels, barely paying attention to anything playing. Frustration bubbled inside me as I stared at my unanswered messages. I had tried texting Bash, hoping he’d come around again, but the silence on his end made it clear—he was either busy or just not interested. Either way, the boredom was unbearable.

Sarah Boredom seeps into my bones as I mindlessly scroll through F******k. Vincent has been busy, and when he came home, he went straight to sleep. He hadn't been pouncing on me, and I should be relieved, but...I am almost disappointed. Ugh! Something is definitely wrong with me! F******k is doing nothing to cure my boredom, either. Bedtime stories, novels, memoirs, biographies—things like that.” “Is that a joke?” he laughed. “Your lifestyle is so boring. How does a story entertain anybody? Horror, thrillers, silly romance, history—blah, blah, blah. It’s a waste of time.”

“Someone wants to look good on Friday. That will happen. You are not riding with me. You will have an entourage.” Laughter spilled out. His followed. “No jokes. This is serious. They will choke.” “How would they?” came out lightly. A shrug. “Getting bored lately. Then it hit me.” “What?” The bed bounced as we both fell back. Almost flew off. Lightness had its downside. “Never been to a library.” “Same,” slipped out without thinking. “Not today.” “No, not today.” Laughter echoed again. Silence followed. Then his voice. “Ask me something. I am bored.”

Bored and restless, I wandered from room to room, searching for something to occupy my mind. In Bella’s room, I spotted a book on her nightstand—Birthday Girl by Penelope Douglas. I had heard good things about it, so I decided to give it a shot. I curled up on her bed, diving into the pages. For a while, it worked—I was able to lose myself in the story and momentarily forget the unease tugging at me. But, of course, that didn’t last long.

What could happen in one day? He ordered breakfast. Damn good thing because I was getting tired of acting like a lady, ignoring the growling of my stomach. He sat beside me on the couch, watching TV. He stayed shirtless, and wore those gray sweat pants that gave little to the imagination. I wasn’t interested in the show, So I went through work emails a
