Born In The Veil Novels & Stories

This was different. This was intense. Something was happening. Something I wasn’t even entirely sure of. But yet, I waited. And at 11:59, the veil began to form. It started as a ripple. Thin. Barely visible. The kind of shimmer you’d miss if you blinked too fast. Then the ripple grew. It widened into a narrow slit, stretching tall enough to step through, deep enough to swallow you whole. It didn’t roar. It pulsed. Like a heartbeat.

Cassius whispered, his face turning ashen as he scrolled through a series of neuro-scans from thirty years ago. “Vaughn didn't build Aether-Tech. He was a mid-level engineer who survived a lab accident - an accidental exposure to a proto-Acoustic Prism. The accident didn't just give him power; it gave him an 'Infection.'” “The Veil isn't a group of people,” Virex said, his voice realization dawning with a cold dread. “It’s a sentient frequency. An artificial consciousness born from the first experiments of the Wyrd Council. It’s a 'Musical Virus' that needs a human ego to act as its hands and mouth.”

Her mother took something from her bag—a white, thin cloth. "Wear this. This will be your veil." "Do I really need that, Mom?" "Yes, you do. Turn around and bend down a bit." She turned around, and her mother started placing the veil on her head. She was really prepared because she also brought hairpins. Then she faced her and placed the other part of the veil on her face. "Let's go." Her mother and father went inside first before she was pulled by her mother. But when they entered, she felt like sinking into the tiles of the municipal hall because everyone's eyes were on her. Good thing her mother gave her a veil, so it's not too embarrassing.

I stepped on a twig which sent shivers down my spine and almost fell, my veil fell to the floor. "Did you hear that?" I heard someone ask. I quickly grabbed my veil and hid behind a tree. A flashlight was flashed towards my direction but they couldn't see me because of the huge tree. My heart pounded in my chest when I heard the rustling of leaves coming towards me. I couldn't afford to get caught after so much effort I put into this plan. If it fell through, I might never be able to get my child out of their clutches again.

He grunts. Lucas hand raised to brush the curls out of his face but the planned movement was interrupted, forcing his eyes open he looked down at himself to see what had caused the intrusion and to his surprise he found that he was completely covered with a blanket and his helper had gone an extra mile to help with loosening up his buttons and belt. His shoes were also gotten rid of.

She didn’t want to get roped into the package deal that was Anders. But Veil couldn’t help it. He was alluring, standing there with needy eyes and disheveled hair, exactly portraying the image of the young boy her mother warned her to avoid back in high school. Now, that young boy was a man and was giving her every chance to stay away from him. But Veil took a step forward, his eyes watching her as she continued, like a choreographed movement, until she stopped in front of him.

I give people the benefit of the doubt - too much so, apparently - but once that trust is broken, it can’t be rebuilt. Enzo Baresi seems to be taking his wife’s betrayal in his stride, and for reasons I don’t fully understand, I want to show him that I refuse to let it break me either. I’m stronger than that, and I want him to know it. Two hours later, I’m ready. I’ve been manicured and primped to perfection, my skin radiant and my makeup flawless. The black dress I wear sends a message that I am a woman who knows just what she has to offer the world, and my heels say that nothing can slow me down. In a small act of rebellion that’s just for me, I’m wearing the black lace corset and garter b

Whenever I felt insecure or self-conscious, he would comfort me and reassure me that everything would be okay. Although I was new to a life of luxury, I was adjusting well. I had a personal ladymaid by the name of Nana. She is a bat harpy. I have learned quite a lot about the Underworld. Somethings I didn't want to go into the specifics about since I wish I didn't learn them myself. Unfortunately, Hades is absent today, leaving me without company. I felt lonely without him. I tossed and turned in bed for a while longer until I couldn't take it anymore. Just as I decided to go look for him, I heard the sound of a whirlwind.

break. I cry out. I don’t care how it sounds. I need help. “Back up!” Ezra yells, and I catch movement in my periphery; Kaia’s brothers pulling people away. Then, the sky groans. Above me, the clouds ripple, then split open like parchment being torn in two. The Veil is breaking. ~~~

“That depends on what she does next.” The sky above them cracked. A pulse rippled across the realm, a shudder that traveled through the earth. The Veil was weakening fast. Soon, what lay beyond it on the other side, the Hollowed Realm would spill through. The Prophetess screamed again, clawing at her own throat. “We were promised rebirth! We gave you blood! We gave you children!” “You gave me *nothing*,” the Firstborn growled, lifting her with a single motion and tossing her aside like a doll.
