Astonishment was all over her face.

"You're not fine!" she yelled in a scratchy voice. "Your abnormal heartbeat was called an arrhythmia. The doctor said that it is stress-related, it could worsen if you continue to push yourself in this way.”

The one I gave her for protection. "Bella..." My mind sputtered, refusing to connect the dots. Her eyes weren't afraid. They were chips of ice. "This time, you will not win." More blood poured out. My vision started to blur. I tried to reach for her, but a voice I despised roared through the room. "Isabella!" Dante kicked the door in, his eyes blazing with murder.

Scarlett echoed. "What does that mean?" Benji didn't like the sound of it. "Your brother has atrial fibrillation, which is when the top chambers of the heart beat out of synch with the lower chambers." Dr. Nakamura turned her notebook around and revealed a tablet. She tapped the screen and a heart diagram filled the screen. "AFib doesn't typically affect men Garth's age, and alone I don't think we'd have found ourselves here. From the readings I'm seeing and in talking with your brother, I think he experienced what's called takotsubo cardiomyopathy."
