“Fuck... I can't wait."
Sarah buys the story easy when I tell her that night, too easy, maybe. "Have fun fishing," she says, kissing my cheek. "Catch something big." Her eyes linger a second too long, she seems suspicious, but I brush it off as paranoia.
I leave first on Friday morning, the drive up the winding mountain roads giving me time to think. This is reckless, leaving traces like this. But the need outweighs the risk. By afternoon, I'm at the cabin, a cozy log setup tucked deep in the woods, no neighbors for miles. Inside, it's rustic—a stone fireplace, a loft with a king bed overlooking the main room. I stock the fridge with basics, build a fire even though it's warm, and wait.
