I shrieked again gulping more salt water before the wave covered me completely not giving me enough time to draw air into my hungry lungs. What are the chances of being saved or eaten by a shark? My voice was muffled under the water, all I could see was bubbles coming from my mouth and nose as I drank in the salty water and the stream of golden sunshine coming from above. The more I kicked and struggled, the more I sank deeper, my heart beat was ringing in my waterlogged ears. I was drowning but this time not in a swimming pool but in the ocean. Mom, Dad and Jake wouldn't see my body to bury.

She did not want to spoil the moment, so she nodded, believing she would be the only one swimming while he watched, and she planned on giving him a show. They got to the picnic place close to the lake in the forest, and Ethan asked that they swim first and eat later. Meadow immediately obliged and began to take off her clothes until she was wearing nothing. She wanted to give Ethan a show, and his dark wolf eyes showed that she had succeeded. She entered the lake, and Ethan wheeled close to watch her swim. He calculated how to surprise her. Ethan watched her swim away with her back on him, admiring the trees and the sky above the lake.

The surface world’s air couldn’t support the Airborne method of flight; Bjorn fell like a kite without wind. When he plunged into the foaming waters, the slurpy moisture clung to his pectorals like hagfish slime. Getting caught in the most awful rain ever conceived couldn’t drown him any quicker. He sank, pressed back to the surface, gagged, and sank again. His gills pumped sludge, and a fire raged in his throat. He went down again.

My soul drifted up from a cage at the bottom of the ocean, somehow ending up near Isaac Thornton. Liam Donovan, his assistant, told Isaac, "Mr. Thornton, Mrs. Thornton's been in the ocean for a day and a night. The water's freezing; she might not make it." Isaac replied, "She's only been in the ocean for a day and a night, but my Mandy's gone forever." Liam tried again, "But the dead can't be brought back. If something happens to Mrs. Thornton..." Isaac threw a stack of papers at him.

Soon the water got to my neck. I wasn't a strong swimmer and I struggled to stay afloat the water. The currents became stronger. I knew it was only a matter of time before I drowned. At this time I was fully inside the water. I drank a lot of the water and could not breath. I struggled and fought, and soon my arms were beginning to get tired.

"Iris! Are you there?!" I waited for a moment for her to stick her head out of the water but there was no reply. The water was still, save for ripples caused by the falling water. I dove into the water immediately, landing into the water and sinking several meters deep. Slowly, I swam up to the water, in order not to take in nitrogen which was absolutely dangerous. I knew the spot where she landed and I swam as quick as my body could take me, through the cold water. I just hoped her body hadn't been washed to the part where the water current was terrible. She was going to drown.

Shit. Nevermind Kane. I’m going to die tonight. That will solve all my problems. I forget everything I know as the panic grips me. I forget the lessons Aunt Mildred taught me about how to swim out of a rip current. I forget every magic spell I’ve ever learned – not that I think I can magic my way out of this one. I flip onto my back and stare up into the night sky. Maybe, if I’m lucky, a shark will eat me and it will be over quickly. I’ve always feared drowning. But this is what I get. It’s karma coming to bite me in the ass.

Terrified that this could lead to my demise, I cried out Leona's name, but my pleas were drowned out by the rushing water. Then, a sharp cramp coursed through my leg from the exertion, and the next moment, I was submerged. The air grew scarce, my neck constricting, and my consciousness fading. "Flop!" Just as I was about to lose consciousness, a resounding thud echoed from above the water's surface. Struggling to open my eyes underwater, I glimpsed a massive black shape hurtling towards me. I opened my mouth to scream, but instead, I swallowed a mouthful of water before succumbing to unconsciousness.

I grinned. “So with your life for nature, that’s the best you’ll do?” He shook his head and plunged deeper into the water. I tried to locate him underneath the surface but there was no trace of him anywhere. “Can he also breath underwater?” I knew it wasn’t possible but how could he be down there and not drown to death.

I continued to watch. He had Tova flipped to her stomach and he took her hips and raised them, sliding a blanket roll underneath. “She’s dry drowning,” he said, by way of explanation. I now understood the slight fever and fatigue she had complained of. She wasn’t getting enough oxygen. Her lungs had become saturated during her swim yesterday. She must have breathed in a bunch of water, not enough to drown her, but enough to cause her lung tissue to absorb it. It happens a lot in cold water.
