I swallow the lump in my throat, and walk faster before turning around the corner. The next moment, I slam into a hard chest that has me stumbling backwards, and I lose balance. I brace myself for the fall as I feel my body leaning back. I squeeze my eyes shut knowing this has got to hurt but surprise fills me when a hand wraps around my waist and my back hits something hard. And that is not the cold, tiled floor of this ridiculous mansion of a pack house. “Look who finally woke up,” a deep chuckle resounded in my ear, and I blink my eyes open.

Every second felt like standing at the edge of something that would change me forever. Then I heard it. The crunch of tires on gravel. My breath caught sharply. Baron’s hand found mine, firm and warm. “She’s here,” he whispered. I nodded, my chest tight, my heart pounding so hard I thought it might break free. For the first time in my life, I wasn’t preparing for violence. I was preparing to be seen. And for the first time… I hoped that would be enough. Baron’s hand tightened around mine as we walked down the stairs.

Chapter 19 MEL As I stepped out of the crowded elevator, I stumbled and fell. I closed my eyes tight expecting to fall on the hard floor but instead, I felt someone's arm grab me. I slowly opened my eyes and our eyes met. My breathed literally hitched as I was taken aback and stunned. Checking up the books, I climbed the table to get some old books from the top of the bookshelf. Suddenly, I felt a shudder from the bottom of the table. "Ohh, shit!" I closed my eyes as I lost my balance and I knew that soon my hips are going to thud to the marble floor. I assumed pain on my hips due to falling. But I didn't feel pain anymore. I snapped open my eyes and I found myself in his arms. "Is he ghost?" I thought. How rapidly he came and caught me, it's impossible. I swallowed saliva heavily.

The resulting jolt lifted me slightly, my legs no longer making contact with the ground. "Come on!" I exclaimed, delivering a sharp blow to his shoulder. "You've got to be joking!" I yelled, feeling his arm tighten around my waist. He held me as if I were a child. Anxiously, my heart raced with worry. There was no escape from his grip. No idea surfaced, no plan emerged. It seemed I would have no choice but to succumb to his demands. It was an agonizing decision to make, but surrendering would never be in my best interest. Chapter 49
