The noise was getting louder and louder. "Adrian!" I yelled. Suddenly, the door opened as Darius entered, sweating profusely. "What is going on?" I asked him. "The city is on fire!" He yelled immediately as he ended the room. "What?" I asked him in confusion. "Explain what's going on in the pack now?" I yelled at him. "The city is on fire!" He announced. "What do you mean, can you explain better?" Adrian asked him as I sat up. The city is on fire?

Chapter One — The Girl Who Burned Bridges The city never slept, not even when the moon was high and full, casting silvery light over the glittering glass towers of Crescent City. Neon signs buzzed. Taxi horns echoed. Humans hurried down sidewalks with coffee in one hand and stress in the other. Somewhere, music thumped from a club basement. And inside a tiny, too-warm coffee shop tucked between a bookstore and a vape lounge, Riley Hart was pretending not to exist.

“She thinks the fire was protection.” Alexander nodded. “And that without it, everything collapses.” Evelyn’s voice was calm. “She is wrong. Protection that requires erasure is not protection. It is fear pretending to be order.” Outside, the city pulsed with life, unaware of the philosophies colliding beneath its skyline. Claudia Moreau had inherited a system built on fire and silence. Evelyn Hart had survived it. And survival, once understood, changed everything. The reckoning was no longer abstract. It was personal. And it had only just begun.

Flames danced along alleyways, licking at buildings that had once been home to innocents, to memories, to a life I barely remembered. Wolves ran like shadows, snarling, leaping, tearing. Chaos was no longer a warning it was the world we were trapped in. My hands were slick with blood, my lungs screamed with every breath. My wolf thrummed beneath my skin, fierce, wild, ready to explode. But I forced it down, every instinct screaming at me to shift and tear, claw and rip.

– Mina – The city didn’t wait for permission to burn. It answered Frankie’s executions with violence so loud it rattled windows and woke people who didn’t know their lives were already collateral. Smoke rose from Queens before the radios caught up, thick and black, the kind that clings to clothes and lungs long after the flames die.

The city lights are visible in the distance, a sprawling carpet of life that Clyde spent his life building. "They’re going to starve the city to get to me," I whisper. Clyde pulls me into his side, his arm a solid, protective bar of iron. "They can try," he growls, his eyes flashing amber toward the sky. "But they’ve forgotten one thing." "What?" "They’re not just dealing with an Alpha anymore," he says, looking at me with a terrifying pride. "They’re dealing with the Fire." The 24-hour clock begins now...

FINAL BEAT Later, standing by my window, the city lights reflecting like fractured stars, I let my hand linger in his. No past. No claims. No games. Just choice. And that, I finally understood, was the most dangerous, most intoxicating fire of all. Because fire, once chosen, never lets you go — not entirely. And maybe, just maybe, neither did we.

I averted my gaze to the glass and I was surprised to see a change in the "awesome view" An end of city has been set on fire. The fire was gradually spreading from that end to another end. Only people with a view like this can notice what was happening. "The city is on fire." Steve exclaimed. "What do I do to stop this upcoming massive ruin?" I thought. "What do we do?" Steve panicked. "It's only a matter of time before it gets to this place." "Do not panic, Steve." I frowned at him. "All you need to do is get ready for our department." I ordered and hurried to my room.

“This is where they made the first wolves… where they bound power into flesh for the first time.” Evelynn shivered. “And you think… what? That the fire—my fire—can tell us why it’s being drawn to me?” Aiden’s gaze softened, but it didn’t waver. “I don’t just think it. I know it. The fire is older than you or me, older than this world. And the ruins… they remember it. They respond to it.” She glanced around nervously. The shadows clung to the edges of the courtyard like living things, curling and stretching as though testing her. A cold whisper, barely audible, slithered through the air: The fire… it hungers…
