"How's that possible? Are you a vampire? It's only vampires that are said to have cold hands and feet because of low temperature," Rhea scoffed, and he leaned forward. He smirked at her.

He didn’t hesitate — reached for my right hand with the composed efficiency of a man performing a ritual requirement, nothing more. His fingers closed around mine and adjusted — right over left, the way the elder had said, his palm against the back of my hand and his fingers wrapping forward. Warm. That was the first thing. How warm his hands were. I had not expected that, somehow — I had expected cold, because everything about him read as cold. But his hands were warm and his grip was certain. It took me a second to retreat my hand from the water, then I embraced myself as if it could stop the heat escaping from my body. I've wanted him close. The funny thing is Richard is always cold, he has cold hands, cold feet, while he is always cold , I am always warm.
