Alora’s POV: The water was colder than I expected when I stepped under the shower, and for a second, it stole the breath right out of my lungs. I stood there anyway, letting it run over my skin, down my shoulders, along my spine, as if I could rinse something deeper than just sleep off my body. Slowly, I adjusted the temperature, turning the knob until the chill softened into something warmer, something almost comforting. I closed my eyes. For a brief moment, there was nothing—no faces, no voices, no memories. Just the steady sound of water hitting tile.
