The silence pressed against her ears. She didn’t see the shadow slip out from behind the car. A man, face hidden under a mask, crept up behind her. Lauren turned—too late. The iron rod came down hard against her head. A sharp pain flashed through her, and her body gave way. She collapsed onto the ground, unconscious, her blood darkening the street.

“It’s late. We’ve been waiting here for three hours.” Alissa looked down at her trembling hands, tears pricking her eyes. “It’s fine, Asher. You can go home if you want. I’ll take an Uber.” Seeing how stubborn she was about staying, Asher sighed. “Fine. We’ll wait.” Just then, the elevator dinged—and Ayem Randall stormed out, striding across the lobby in huge strides. She had been in another city for a reunion with friends and had to fly back after hearing what had happened to Shane.

Only then did Lisa breathe out a sigh of relief. The rest of the class went by rather eventful, Asher didn't look in her direction anymore, he seemed dedicated to asking Amy questions she couldn't answer, and therefore making her the laughingstock of the class. By the end of it, Amy was flushed in anger and embarrassment, Jamie was trying to calm her down but she just ended up venting on him. The moment the bell rang indicating the end of Asher's class, Lisa was the first out of the door, in my desperation to run away she knocked down a few people and even hit my foot against a table. However, the pain was worth it because she had managed to get away before Asher could stop her.

He knew the next few hours would be crucial, and he prayed that Asher would pull through. Her vision, blurred by tears, darkened further. Her head felt like it was being pierced by a thousand needles. Finally, darkness enveloped her consciousness, and her body went limp to the floor.
