"I can't take you there; you'd cause a big scene, and we need to be as low profile as possible. You have to stay here." She whined again as I walked to the mound, but she stayed put. I looked over the door and frowned. On this side of the mound, the door didn't have a picture of a star over a fairy landscape. Instead, it had a picture of the Earth; a globe done in silver inlay over a gold background with North and South America facing out. Earth on this side, star on the other; it didn't take a genius to figure out that the doors were more than barriers, they were also signs showing where the path led.

She opened it again, flipping through the pages with growing frustration. Then she saw it—a symbol she hadn’t noticed before, faint and almost invisible against the aged paper. A crescent moon, but this time accompanied by a constellation of stars. Beneath it was a single word: Convergence. “What the hell does that mean?” Isla muttered. Astra leaned over her shoulder. “Looks like something Gideon would know.” Isla snapped the journal shut. “We don’t have time to wait for him.” Before Astra could respond, a loud crash came from the front of the house. The door had been forced open, and two rogues stood in the entryway, their eyes glowing with malevolent intent.

Kael looked toward the empty space where Auren had disappeared. “I don't need a perfect future.” His Heart exploded with light. “I only need a future that belongs to us.” The entire universe shattered. The First Kael screamed. Kael reached forward. “Auren!” A small hand grabbed his. “Daddy!” Kael pulled Auren close. Selene appeared beside them. The ruined universe began disappearing. But something remained. A single door. Black. Covered in silver symbols. Kael stared at it. “What is that?” The First Kael's voice echoed from somewhere beyond it.
