I opened them and stepped inside, closing them behind me for some privacy.

They passed through small landings with numbered doors—Vault 12, Vault 9—until they reached the top. In this case, a short staircase led to a small antechamber. Opposite them stood a door unlike any they had encountered before. It wasn't steel, but a dull metal finish with a complexion of sucking in all light available to it. I realized that the door led to the stairway; it must have been an emergency door.

She was telling someone what room and that the person wanted to sign himself out. They needed the paperwork brought up asap.
