he said as he glared at me, then turned to the fridge and grabbed a few things.
“I have a feeling I’ll like you better after a few drinks,” I said with a smile and took a sip of my drink, then opened the book and began to read. I glanced up at him a few times to watch him cook, a thing I’d never seen a man do other than on a grill, but not enough to know what all he was putting in the sauce. The smell was driving me crazy before he was done. I kept glancing at the stove, wondering how much longer it would take. Finally, he grabbed a couple of plates and handed me one. “Thank God!” I said and slammed the book shut, not having retained any of it.
