Coyote Shivers Novels & Stories

It was a large coyote, moving slowly closer to the little puppy. “Terrence!” she shouted, her voice urgent, as the coyote got no more than thirty or forty feet from tiny Shep. “I see him,” Terrence called back, his eyes fixed on the predator. He bent down and dug under the snow, grabbing some rocks and sticks and throwing them carefully at the hungry coyote. The animal yelped when a small rock hit it, but it didn’t run like a coyote usually would when scared by a human. Terrence cursed at it, yelled, and kept throwing anything he could find at the stalking predator, but the coyote just let out a low, feral growl.

It’s a battle to get to her, a battle I am willing to accept. I’m almost there. I am shooting anyone who tries to run at me. I am dodging those already invested in one another. I am jumping over those who have fallen. I am coming Sincere! Hold on for me! “RRROOOOAAAARRR!” A beastly growl is released into the air, everyone freezing at this unearthly sound. I slide to a stop, taking this time to catch my breath and understand what is unfolding in front of me. The flames die down, and before me stands the true beast that Sincere hides.

As the beast raised its powerful claws at me with what looked like a taunting smirk, I smoothly slid out of its way. “So clumsy,” I taunted it, slipping out of its path every time it made a move. The coyote let out an enraged snarl, as if asking me to stand still. I stared at it, noticing the faint shimmer in its outline. Now! I lunged towards it, catching it by surprise and calling my Alpha powers, I snapped its head just as its body shrank to its normal size. As the beast laid dead, I stared down at it. I knew that the heightened form was its survival mechanism and would last just a few minutes. I just had to wait it out until it ran out of energy.

I tried to space out but the I couldn't, so I prayed. Alex On my way back from hunting, I heard a scream. It was unusual at that time of the night, so I hurried to go and check what it was. I only heard the scream once, so I wasn't clear what direction it came from. Fearing what might be happening, I prayed the person would scream again. It took a few seconds, but the second scream came. It was towards the staff quarters. I immediately shifted to my wolf form to enable me to get there faster.

I wasn't sure I could let out a howl loud enough, not with the moon hidden behind gray clouds in the dark overcast sky the way it was. I ground my teeth together noiselessly, shivering when I felt the slick body of the creature graze past my ears briefly as it staggered past, my ears flexing when the sound of whimpers and shuffling feet echoed in the void beside me only what felt like seconds before the lonely, creature let out an ear-splitting howl before I felt the air shift as it whizzed past me, faster than I could have imagined. What the fuck?

Jasper’s voice was a deep bellow, his blue eyes locked on the shades to his left, the ice crunching under his boots, the marrow shades closing in, the plateau a battlefield, the chill a constant threat. “On it, Mar!” Jasper shouted, his voice a deep rumble that echoed across the plateau, his axe swinging in a wide arc, the blade cutting through a shade, its shadowy form dissipating with a wail, the frost dusting his cloak, the wind biting at his skin, the ice shards casting shadows, the plateau a challenge they faced together. “Keep ‘em coming—I’ve got plenty of swing left!” He struck again, another shade dissolving, the blue glow casting jagged shadows around him, the plateau a crucible for

The rain isn't cleaning the city. It is drowning it. Water cascades off the eaves of the crumbling baroque buildings, turning the cobblestones of Via Roma into slick, treacherous mirrors. It lashes against my face, cold and stinging, soaking through the cheap grey hoodie in seconds. The fabric plasters to my skin, a wet, heavy second skin that chills me to the bone. I shiver. "We have about ten seconds before the rest of the trucks get down the ridge." I stumbled out of the SUV, my boots sinking into the fresh powder. The wind hit my face like a thousand tiny needles. I'd never been this cold in my entire life, not even close. My fingers went numb immediately, useless dead weights at the ends of my wrists. I watched Vane and Ronan strip out of their ruined clothes, their breath fogging in the frozen air. The shift wasn't majestic. It was gritty and violent, the sound of their bones breaking and reforming echoing over the howling wind. They hit the ground on four paws, massive and terrifying, their fur bristling against the blizzard.

Its surface was shattered, spiderweb cracks spreading out like fractured veins. I reached out and touched the cold glass. The broken reflections fractured my face into jagged pieces, distorting my features into something unrecognizable. A shiver ran down my spine. This was no accident. In the darkness, I heard a whisper, faint but clear. *“Find the truth beneath the surface.”* I told myself it was the wind, the city playing tricks on a tired mind. “They’ve learned how to disguise their scent. We were taught that in the labs, remember?” Oh yeah. She remembered that now. They’d found a way to disguise Coyote Breeds’ marker scent. It wasn’t easy, and it was irritating to the Breeds’ senses, but they could do it. “We need to contact Del-Rey,” Sharone said, voice low. “Ashley, get ahead of us. Run hell for leather and find help. I have a feeling shit’s going to get ugly if those bastards catch us on that trail. We’ll be sitting targets.”
