My wolf stirred uneasily beneath my skin, pacing, restless, sensing the storm that hovered right above us. I exhaled slowly. My fingers hooked under the seal. And then…. A blaring horn. The violent screech of tires. My head snapped up just in time to see a blur of metal hurtling toward me. Before I would even get my hands on my car wheel to drive out of the incoming vehicle, it had already crashed into me. The crash came like a thunderclap. The other car smashed into mine with force, hurling me sideways. The world spun, metal groaned, glass shattered.

“That’s a great idea, we can look at an intro course to give you an idea of what its like and see if you want to take it further.” Lottie smiles at me and gives my hand an excited squeeze. Her eyes widen and her face knots in terror. My vision blurred as I became lost in thought. Suddenly, the blaring of horns jolted me back to reality. Two vehicles—a large truck and an SUV—were heading straight for me. I slammed the brakes, my car screeching to a halt, but it was too late. The impact was immense as the truck collided with the side of my car, causing it to spin out of control. My screams of shock filled the air as the SUV smashed into the other side, crushing me between the two vehicles.

But I couldn't hear anything beyond the scream in my chest. I reached the middle of the road when headlights came blazing toward me—bright, blinding, and fast. Screech. Crash. The car slammed into my side with brutal force. My body flew through the air like a rag doll, twisting midair before crashing onto the asphalt with a sickening thud. CRACK. Pain exploded through me—my ribs felt crushed, my leg twisted at an unnatural angle, and something warm gushed from my head. I could feel my own blood soaking into the road beneath me.

The only way to walk to her house, the distance from the coffee shop to her house is not that far, maybe only 15 minutes walk.
