“Okay. But you’re making me T-shirts. I want one that says Save Marigold Grove or We Riot.” I cracked a smile, the idea of creating something fun lighting a spark of hope within me. “Deal.” I returned to my laptop, pulling up Canva to adjust the spacing on the logo I’d sketched—a whimsical design of paw prints shaped like leaves encircling a solitary tree. In my mind, I envisioned asking Alan if he and Rufio would join me for the walk. I wondered if I could phrase it so it wouldn’t come off as too much or too little.

“Keep going.” “The logo needs to breathe more. The green is right but it’s too corporate. It should feel like growth, not a quarterly report.” She grabbed a pen from his desk and turned over a loose sheet of paper. “Something like...” She sketched quickly, loose and instinctive, a simple mark that curved upward, open at the top. “Not polished, it should feel organic. Like something that’s actually alive.” She looked up to find him watching her hands. “You drew that in thirty seconds,” he said quietly.

Mia worked as a graphic designer and always had the funniest client stories. “So then the guy says, ‘Can you make my logo more… aggressive but also friendly?’” Mia recounted as we set the table. “How do I even do that? I spent three hours making it look like a smiling shark.” I laughed, genuinely. “You should’ve shown him the version with teeth. That would’ve been aggressive.” “Exactly!” She reached across the table and squeezed my hand for a second. Just that brief touch sent electricity racing up my arm. I pulled back quickly, pretending to adjust my napkin.

Luckily, by the time we reached the alpha’s house, he seemed to have gotten that cactus out of his ass and actually helped me get the groceries inside. Ok, bipolar much? I didn’t comment other than a “thank you” and closed the door behind me. My eyes traveled over the patches on the wall, where I'd started my project to get creative with them, using what I loved the most: lines! OK, in this case, stick figures. I loved how easy it was to transform the gray patches into anything imaginable, and how the stick figures told a million different stories. The sky’s the limit - and that's a very long line to draw.

’ Tanya thought to herself, grinning widely as she let her hand control the stylus pen on the graphic tablet, creating an image that she imagines. Her eyes shines brightly as she saw the work coming alive, her heart beating furiously as she felt excited working on the file.

I know I sound petulant, but honestly, this man. He’s incredibly aggravating. Even more so because he didn’t actually do anything wrong. This time. Nathan glances to the left, and it takes me a second to remember that that’s the general direction of Hart’s office. Nathan clears his throat. “Let’s just say there’s a project I want to develop privately, and I need someone I trust to do the graphics without blabbing to other parties.”
