I asked, brushing her hair back.
“I drew a rainbow with Miss Clara! And look...” She fished a folded paper out of her backpack, proud eyes shining. The rainbow arched in uneven strokes, each band of color wobbling across the page. But right beneath it, she had drawn two stick figures. One tall, one small, their hands joined. “That’s us,” Sophie said, beaming. My throat tightened. “It’s perfect,” I whispered, kissing her cheek.
