Anna Danny and I were seated in Mr Samuels' car as he drove us to the restaurant. I silently watched him and Danny discuss more about the matter. My heart rate had increased by a lot since we left the coffee shop. Danny had assured me so many times that it would be fine, but I really just couldn't calm down. Mr Samuels looked like a scary man, so what if we went there and nobody supported us in fear of what Mr Connor would do to them. I really didn't know how Danny had so much confidence in his plan, because no matter how many times I asked him, he spoke like he could already see the future.

"What are you doing here? You're not sitting through the meeting with Sam?" "Meeting?" Danny appeared perplexed. Quinn frowned. "You mean there's no meeting?" "Not in the morning today—just one at 3 PM," Danny quickly said. Quinn was left further perplexed. "Well, where's Sam? Is he out with a partner or doing rounds?" Logically, Danny would always follow Sam everywhere he went… so why was Sam alone missing?

It seemed like he was frustrated for not getting the outcome he wanted. Upon seeing Sam approaching, Daniel recomposed himself. He greeted Sam. "Mr. Somner." Daniel was more familiar with Sam's stage name. Daniel felt somewhat strange meeting Sam. He had misunderstood Sam's relationship with Rebecca before this. Not to mention, they also had some issues online. Recalling everything that had happened, Daniel couldn't help feeling awkward. Sam maintained a calm demeanor. "Mr. Winston, there's no need for such formalities at such a time. Feel free to call me as you wish."

SAMANTHA The door swung open before I knocked the second time. Macey stood there in leggings and a cropped hoodie, hair piled on top of her head in that messy, effortless way that made her look like she lived on P*******t. She barely blinked before smirking. “Girl, my brother refused to let you go without imprinting himself on you. You reek of sex.” Heat crept up my neck and flushed my cheeks. “Hi, Mace.” She leaned on the doorframe like she was hosting a talk show. “Hi, Sam. You wanna come in? Or just stand there marinated in whatever testosterone-laced cologne situation you’ve got going on?”

** That evening, the couple who had rescued him—Kayla and Danny—visited. Danny scratched at the back of his neck awkwardly as he entered the room. “Hey, man. You look better than the last time we saw you. You were, uh… on fire.” Kayla rolled her eyes. “Ignore him. He’s trying to be funny.” Samuel gave them a weak smile. “Thank you… for finding me.” “We didn’t do anything heroic,” Kayla said softly. “We were just driving by. I thought you were a dying deer at first.”

Sam said as her face brightened. "Dylan is my best friend and he's also like a brother to me, we've known each other since preschool." I explained as I dropped my bag on my bed. "Yeah, so the thought of that is definitely a no!" Dylan added. "A no no." Sam looked relieved with that explanation. "Well, I should get going now, bye." Dylan waved at the both of us before he left. As soon as I closed the door, Sam squealed. "Oh my gosh! You didn't tell me you had a hot best friend."

I stopped as I noticed no one other than of course Danny walking past along with the remaining firefighters who were just about done checking their equipment and putting them away. He took a quick glance at me as our eyes met locking on to each other as if we were missiles looking on to our target. He broke contact and looked forward after giving me a slight nod with a smirk before continuing to walk away as if he had never even seen me. It was only for a few seconds but when he looked at me I felt as if he was looking into my skin all the way to my soul like I was see-through. Sam whispers into the phone. I want to smack her through the phone. Of course, we aren't cool. If we were okay, she'd love me back, and Mr. Darcy wouldn't be an option for her. "Sure, Sam. We're cool. Sorry I made an ass of myself last night. I was a little drunk. I hope I didn't say anything too embarrassing." Sam breaths into the phone with a sigh of relief. "So you're not in love with me?" I don't respond right away. But, whatever I say now will make Sam question the rest of her life with Mr. Darcy.

I refrain from asking, arching my brow instead. "Shoot, that came out wrong, what I meant was- " " I know what you meant but no, I'm not curled up in my room, crying and wishing my problems go away, I'm here having a nice time with my cousin. Just like you guys are right?" I say, gesturing to the two of them. " Yeah. Um about Danny and-" " Danny's here." Sam speaks up, stopping Amber mid sentence. We all turn to face Danny who's in red jogger pants, white sneakers and a white shirt, he looks really good.
