"That is what the novel is about. The dark is the experience. The return is life. The dark changes you, but you do not stay in the dark. You come back, and you live, and the change is in the living." They sat with this. The coffee was finished. The morning light was growing—January light, still low, still cold, but growing. The eighth year had begun. The dark was behind them, not in the sense that there would be no more dark—there would be plenty of dark in January and February—but in the sense that they knew what the dark was for. The dark was for the coming back. The dark was for the light's return.

AUTHOR'S P.O.V. In the shrouded shadows of the night, a formidable black wolf, with fur as dark as the abyss, prowled stealthily through the underbrush. Its eyes, glowing with a fierce, infernal red, were fixed intently on the men stationed outside the building. Despite its lupine form, it exuded a commanding presence over the armed men in their human guise. The wolf, driven by a singular purpose, was here for one individual – a target it was resolutely determined to eliminate this very night.

Presently, While Daphne and Liam prepared to confront inspector Hayes, another meeting was going on. Deep within the heart of an ancient, desolate forest, a gathering of the malevolent Black Wolves took place under the shadowy canopy of night. The air was thick with a sinister energy as a hundred of these dark entities, cloaked in human guise, assembled in a large, moonlit clearing. Their eyes glimmered with a malefic light, revealing their true nature as they prepared to unleash chaos upon the unsuspecting nation.

A second later, it gave out its black smoke. Ibekwe dropped the pot on the ground and rubbed his eyes. Everywhere was quiet now. The children had stopped singing and dancing and the birds seemed to have gotten what they desired from their ruthless efforts on top of the tree. The light of the moon was still bright and Ibekwe knew he shouldn't be alone.

Not fifteen minutes had passed when the devil walked in. My eyes met his cold brown ones, and I immediately regretted it when the image of last night came to mind. Neither of us said a word, and I continued my breakfast, pretending he wasn't there. He wore a pair of black jeans that hang loosely around his hips, a black shirt with rolled-up sleeves, and a black Adidas. What was this, the national black day? It suited him; though I assure you, his soul was darker still. "You'll get cold in that," He walked toward me and stuffed one of my strawberries into his mouth. A delicious smell consumed my nostrils. His perfume.

He sees me smiles and responds mischievously. "No, I'm fine at the moment," I nod and leave even more nervous than when I entered. I walk into the kitchen and into the office, where Pit has another order list in hand. “What's up Nisha?” he asks when he sees my face. “Who is Dark?” I ask, what happens next alarms me. The list falls from her hands and the color in her face vanishes completely, she opens her eyes wide and says in barely a whisper. “Where have you heard that name?” I hesitate for a moment.

[LUNA] Here I am again, at the bar, trying to drown myself in liquor. But this isn't just any liquor—this one is different. A darker brew, gifted by the elder vampires themselves. I don’t know what’s in it, but it grips me, sends a shiver down my spine, makes the room spin just the way I want it to.
